Very weird weather today. The temperature dropped like 20 degrees, then we had a terrible lightning/thunder storm. My satellite went out for two hours, and the storm hit so suddenly that lightning managed to hit damned close to my house before I was able to run around unplugging everything. The lightning hit so close to my house that it distorted the picture on my monitor (it was all washed out and blue looking, like an old color tv gets after 15 years). I turned it off and back on, and it worked fine, so I guess I lucked out.

I used to live in Roslyn, PA. Back in 1998 I was in the bathroom of my house. I heard a “cloth ripping” noise, followed immediately by an explosion which caused me to literaly jump up and scream. I had a simaler incident happen back in 1995 when I was laying in my bed. It was the middle of the day, with overcast skies and maybe a drizzle. There was no lightning or thunder. All of a sudden, Lightning struck very close to my house, and the thunder was incredible, not unlike the incident in 1998. That also scared the crap out of me. :>
A little over a year later (late 1996) we got hit by the remnants of Hurricane Fran. The storm was absolutly impressive, with extremely high wind gusts, and lightning which looked simaler to the beginning of Twister, when the farmer(?) was trying to hold the
storm door shut.
In the case of your monitor, it sounds like the
screen got “magnatized”, creating the messed up color. Most modern computer monitors have a built in deguazzing coil which is activated for a second of two when the monitor is
switched on. That’s how the monitor fixed itself
.
Oh, the 1998 incident was lightning. :)
