I didn’t think we needed the French involved in the entire Iraq issue until I saw this on Common Dreams:
Greenpeace Activists Block Military Port in Iraq Protest
International pressure group Greenpeace today stepped up its campaign against war with Iraq by blocking a major UK military port, according to the charity.

At 9am today, Greenpeace’s flagship Rainbow Warrior dropped anchor at Marchwood, Southampton, blocking the entrance to the military supply port.

The Greenpeace spokeswoman said the aim of today’s action is to disrupt the naval ships joining the military build-up in the Gulf.
She said: “Rainbow Warrior has blockaded the UK military port of Marchwood at Southampton.
“We want to cut the military supply chain to the war in Iraq.
“Day and night ships and containers have been loaded up with helicopters and tanks at Marchwood bound for the Gulf.
“We have got some Greenpeace climbers who have attached themselves to one of the supply vessels and Rainbow Warrior is anchored directly across the mouth of the military docks.

“This peaceful action is part of a global campaign to prevent a war that will kill hundreds of thousands of people and increase the chances of weapons of mass destruction being used.
“We want to stop this relentless rush towards a war which is basically placing a higher price on oil than blood.”
The spokeswoman added that the Rainbow Warrior had a team of 25 protesters and Greenpeace intended to keep the ship in position at Marchwood as long as possible.
Who can save us from this Green Menace?
Who dares to defy the Rainbow Warrior?
Clearly, there is only one nation who knows how to handle something like this- the French. The renowned multi-lateralists know how to handle this sort of problem.

My kind of solution. KaBoom! Simplisme! Now pass me a Gauloise, if you would.

Don’t we shoot these small powerboats if they approach our military vessels.

Tow it out to sea and scuttle it. Hang around in case anybody wants to jump off, too…

Ah, a blockade is NOT a peaceful action, it is an act of war. Greenpeace has just made itself into part of Saddam’s Navy. The SHS Rainbow Warrior (hardly a peaceful name) ought to be run over.

I am surprised to see that this once-reputable environmental movement has joined the anti-war crowd. I went to their website to be sure and was even further shocked to see that they are also in bed with some “world social forum” that tells us “another world is possible”. Greenpeace is obviously already living there. Oh well, there’s another few bucks a year I’ll save in donations. The list of credible NGO’s is dwindling

Couldn’t they seize it, then sell it to China for an open-air nuke test damage testing station?

Actually, this is dangerous. One of the more common ways terrorists have used to attack ships is by driving a small boat packed with explosives up to one and blowing it up. Got a french tanker last year, IIRC. (and the Cole a while back)
Terrorists can now use the greenpeace colors/markings as camoflauge for a boat attack. At least once.

Although Britain claims to have abolished the death penalty, it is still on the books for sabotage of a naval facility.
Time to get oucall out the man with the axe and mask!

I agree it is an act of war, and that it should be treated as such. Order them out, then shove them out of the way and make arrests for piracy of everyone aboard. I say piracy because a non-government ship interfering with the right of free transit is a pirate. About ten years on bread and water seems about right.

for any uk citizen participating, this would be treason (making war on their sovereign…)
hanging offense!

Full speed ahead, and damn the green-weirdoes

Yeah, they should arrest every single one of them and charge them with the most serious crimes they can think of. These Watermelons do this stuff because they know that they are not going to receive any real punishment.
Some real prison time might dissuade future acts of idiocy. This tactic sure did cause some wet underoos when they were given serious charges for trespassing on Cape Canaveral.
Lastly, what’s the penalty for counter-protesting. I wonder how they would react to being graffitied?

I think a guy died when the French sunk the Greenpeace ship. Not so good.
But why are an environmental group staging anti-war protests? And are they aware of Saddams successful attempt to wreck an entire ecosystem by draining the Iraqi marshes?

Do you think if all the men in greenpeace got together that they could come up with one decent set of balls and maybe then they could try this in America.
Now that’s something I’ld like to see but I doubt I will as I’m sure they will be arrested immediately and actual punishment is not what they got into this for.

I’m sure if the ship becomes a problem it could be boarded and tugged away, with the crew being charged with relevant crimes.

So far they haven’t disrupted the ships loading schedule and they are supposed to ship out today. I wonder what exactly they will do.
Aaron
In a just world, they’ll capsize the ship in their wake.
