Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Bark louder, little dog.

This really is a full service blog.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

White supremacy is terrorism.

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Bad news for Ron DeSantis is great news for America.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

People are complicated. Love is not.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

We’ll be taking my thoughts and prayers to the ballot box.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Everybody saw this coming.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Second rate reporter says what?

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

A consequence of cucumbers

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Welcome Back, Private Lynch

The cable networks are reporting that WV native PFC Jessica Lynch, a POW in the conflict in Iraq, has been rescued. Hallelujah. West Virginians are a tough lot- and I am thrilled she is back in coalition hands. The Hillbilly Sophisticate has some comments about Jessica’s return, as well.

I guess this means Kos will have to ‘honor’ someone else in his disgusting, self-serving, shameless, display of anti-war agitprop. Sure, Kos- you are just honoring our fallen heroes.

Somehow I don’t think she will appreciate the fact that she was used as a reason not to fight this regime as she was being tortured by it.

Tortured by the Iraqis? Have you lost your mind, H.H.? Actually, Jessica Lynch had been taken to a hospital and was being treated there when she was rescued. A very humane thing for the Iraqis to do. But, according to you all, they can do no right. So, you just lie about what happened.

Both arms and both legs broken, as well as bullet wounds…sounds like maltreatment to MB !! Of course, Atrios is an expert on disguising the truth as well as an expert on what is or is not torture!

I’d agree that the state I currently live in is full of less than tough people (I’ve recently moved to North Carolina, where 1 inch of snow shuts down entire cities). But I grew up in Northern Maine. People who can withstand such brutal winters are not normally thought of as soft.

    I’ve started the list.

    Soft: North Carolina

    Hard: Maine

That hospital was just a front so USA troops wouldn’t bomb it. The cowards were inside with their munitions, bombs, and torture devices. It is a miracle Jessica is back in coalition hands, and I rejoice for her and her family.

I’m glad Jessica’s back. I’m glad that the Op went well. I’m willing to wait to see what SHE has to say about her treatment. I find it interesting that, even though Iraq is systematically voilation every tenent of Human Rights, as well as the laws of war, it’s the coalition that is being portrayed as the bad guys (nevermind the tons of humanitarian aid coming in from the US, once we could make sure that the trucks wouldn’t get blown up…)

    Yeah Right,
Jessica was held in an Iraqi hospital so she could be treated? Lets see here, Saddam rapes the women of his competitors and kills the rest of their families…and I am supposed to believe that she was being treated with medical attention while being held against her will. If you believe that then grab your blanky and sit in the corner and cover yourself because you are alone.

Great news thatJessica is safe. But this crap about the US being right in this conflict is revolting. You can believe what your joke of a media says but the world knows the truth: there IS a mad dictator who DOES have weapons of mass destruction, and who REFUSES to respect world opinion. His name: George W Bush.

Are we to infer that Saddam is not a mad dictator and has no WMDs by the way?

PVT Lynch fought back and killed Iraqi soldiers, making herself the target of their mysogynistic hate, too. The broken legs and one arm sound too systematic to have been accidental injuries. She couldn’t have fired at the Iraqis with three extremities broken, so I must deduct that those 9 long bones were broken one at a time over her 9 days of captivity as a form of “interrogation” the Iraqis happenned to learn from the East Germans way back when. And yes, the Stasi did practice those “procedures” in hospitals, under controlled medical conditions. My compliments to a beautiful and brave American woman, who wants to be a teacher and who I’d be proud to have teach my grandchildren some day. I also believe she should be put in for no less than a Medal of Honor and urge the like minded to say so to the President and the appropriate legislators.

Rob Johns: Us Americans DON’T believe everything our media tells us. But you can believe this: America is 1000% right to be there. Where were you when we went to Kosovo under Clinton? Was he a mad dictator, too? Or was the cause back then a just one since a liberal was directing it?
You can be sure that George W. knows WAY more than he has eluded to, and I trust him and our leaders when they say we have to go in to eliminate the threat. How very amusing that people like you actually think we’d go in there for oil, or that George W. is saying “YEEE HAAA let’s kill us some EEE RACK EEES!” That jackass Saddam has got to go. No one else will take him out. P.S. World opinion after WWII was: “We waited too long” regarding Hitler. This time, we decided 12 years was long enough.

Remember folks, while our brave soldiers are risking their lives to treat those surrendering with a bit of humanity, our POWs are being physically and mentally tortured as we speak. So lets go have some more “sit-ins”, “protests” and Anti War cries before they return.
How Patriotic?–Pathetic these Flower of flower children can be?

They need a few hours in Saddam’s Pleasure chambers to come to their senses!
This war is about one thing and one thing only—
    GOOD vs. EVIL!
    And GOOD shall be VICTORIOUS!!!!

Medical records prove she was raped by her captors. I won’t expect an apology from Mac for her attempt to give the Ba’athists the benefit of the doubt but this is for the record.
