From the minefields around Najef, Iraq:
American troops found that the fleeing Baath Party and paramilitary forces had set up minefields on roads and bridges leading out of the city. Late today an American engineering team was clearing the third of such fields, this one with 30 mines, by detonating them with C4 explosives.
Lt. Col. Duke Deluca, noting that the mines had been made in Italy, said, “Europeans are antiwar, but they are pro-commerce.”

I’m sure that this entire report is fabricated.
After all Italy has signed AND ratified the landmine treaty. They’d surely never break such a solemn agreement?
Oddly enough, too, Iraq has NOT signed that treaty. How come they’re never mentioned, but the US is?

Americans must never be fooled into thinking we should try to be more moral than anyone else. So long as there are evil nations in the world, any attempt to be good is only a sign of weakness. We need to be more evil than anyone who would dare challenge us!

So…
An Italian company sold Iraqis landmines, making all anti-war Europeans hypocrites? I’m glad no U.S. companies never did that, that would be very embarassing.

err.. I mean ever…
derrrrrr…

Bardp:
Where does it say ALL Europeans are hypocrits?
If you wish to conclude that, tant pis to your Euro-conscience. Personally, I’d feel most embarrassed if I were an Italian anti-landmine activist.
The fact that the US gets more than its share of criticism about not signing the landmine treaty, however, when Iraq seems to get nary a mention IS worthy of derision, IMO.
