Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Let there be snark.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

The GOP is a fucking disgrace.

T R E 4 5 O N

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

I was promised a recession.

I really should read my own blog.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Pejman Has Some Questions

by John Cole|  May 8, 200310:25 am| 19 Comments

This post is in: Democratic Stupidity

FacebookTweetEmail

Since Henry Waxman wants to investigate the cost of having President Bush land on the USS Abraham Lincoln, Pejman has a few questions he wants answered. Questions like:

Let’s investigate how much it would have cost if a Clinton Administration staffer got his wish to divert an entire carrier battle group from Australia to Manila Bayin 1996 while President Clinton was in Asia for the Asia Pacific Economic Conference that year, merely so that the President could fly in via helicopter in order to meet and greet the crew. At least President Bush didn’t divert the Lincoln from its course, and the ship returned to port on time and on schedule.

I see Pejman’s point, of course, but I think the Republicans could have nothing better than several weeks of sustained airplay of Henry Waxman and Robert Byrd on television railing about this- I am betting Bush’s approval ratings will go up every time those two open their mouths. Plus, every time the two mention it to complain, the public gets to watch the footage the Democrats don’t want you to see- the President landing on the deck of the Lincoln and being greeting loudly and proudly by the crew. It’s a win-win for the Republicans. How many times are the Democrats going to create a zero-sum game with this President and come up on the losing side- will they ever learn?

Excellent point, John. Especially the closet racist, pork-barrel Byrd. I don’t think he wants anyone doing a cost-benefit analysis of all the projects he’s brought to West Virginia.

‘how much it would have cost if a Clinton Administration staffer got his wish…’

hahaha ‘Would have,” that’s almost like actually having oral sex or something ain’t it.

Why don’t we inverstigate how much further civil liberties would be eroded if Jr’s Patriot Act 2 was passed. I thought you all cared about the constitution and stuff. Geuss not, more important to wallow in “Clinton Zipper Syndrome”

The man delayed and kept 150 sailors from seeing their newborns(Ari and the gang will tell you different so you can stay on meesage and keep those shrines to Bush polished in your closets)

The whoe purpose of which was set the mood for try to scare the country into voting for the him.
Does it EVER danw on you that you are being led around by the nose?

They have you chasing your tailos hating Clinton while fart on the constitution and move in their theocratic-fascist agenda and you are falling for it.

    Your country needs you.

Sal- You are simply an idiot. Have you ever docked an aircraft carrier before? It isn’t like parking a Yugo in a Walmart parking lot. The date and place where the carrier will be docked is planned out long in advance, and the date of arrival was not postponed ONE DAY.

Do you just make shit up?

    John,

Interesting confirmation of what you say.

At one of the military bulletin boards, there were a slew of messages from families back to CVN-72 crewpeople, indicating their plans to hold big parties when they got back home.

These messages, all of which predate the President’s visit (and a few predate the announcement of the President’s visit) all indicate that the ship is due to dock at Everett, WA, on May 6th.

When did CVN-72 dock? May 6th.

    Funny thing, that….

‘When did CVN-72 dock? May 6th.’
It was ahead of schedule they could have docked sooner….

    John,

Like what’s the guy name who use to be his opposite on that committee? I forget his name, Mr. Subpoena, I think they called him…that committee, the one that is suppose to look at things like this…your guy ain’t no partisan hack is he?

In a way, all this stuff seems to come back to hypocrisy. Most people, myself included, at times in their lives, maybe after a couple drinks, most people are hypocrites about some things. IMHO, When it becomes a problem is in politics when you have people who say one thing, do another, and then try and tell you how to live. Like Bennet, the man the right empowered to tell us what is virtuous while he fritters away millions of dollars in resources which could have been used on something, well, on something virtuous. No I am not anti-gambling just anti-pompous self righteous theocratic hypocritical right wingers shoving their ‘values’ down the country’s throat. Finding them is like shooting fish in a barrel.

I have always been perplexed by something and thought you might be able to explain it to me.

When the right decided to bed down with the Bushster and the Birchers, they obviously had to rationalize a couple things. We all do to some degree. I mean few have any real control over who their party nominees are, we haven’t the money to influence a decision like that, and many of us live where our presidential primaries are after the candidite is picked which makes ours meaningless.

So, for instance, I never would have doubted that a Monica would show up,,,it was obvious Clinton had a thing for the ladies. In the general election I decided his policies and ability to enact them wouldn’t be effected. I was right excwept for one thing. I completely underestimated the ability of the hypocritical right to control debate and waste the country’s time, money and spirit after everyone knew Bill had his pee pee played with….I didn’t see how “Clinton Zipper Syndrome” could mutate so quickly and perversely. How people could be drug in any direction so easily.

I know you were all able to get by Bush’s military record or lack there of, but that would be too on topic so I will skim over it. Suffice to say, I have lived in Alabama and when Viet Nam Vets offer a reward for anyone who can prove George showed up in Alabama to serve as was ordered, and no one comes to forward and even TRIES to collect it, you can bet he never showed up! Believe me, Alabama is not a ‘blue’ state it is as RED as it gets. The overwhelmingly majority follow and love the ‘leader’ and they sure aren’t gonna pass up the dough. BTW: Does Bush still refuse to release his military records? Kind of like the speech he gave to the theocrats at the CNP when he garnered there nod for president…he doesn’t want anyone to know the details.

    Free money:
    http://web.archive.org/web/20001205003400/http://www.al.com/news/birmingham/Oct2000/14-e414023b.html

No, what I was wondering was how you rationalized his work record? How that matched with what you believe in and what is said to be important to conservatives. He was dismal failure in the oil business. The thing that kept him afloat was people buying favor with his Dad by buying him out, one openly admitted it. But the big one I don’t understand is the baseball team deal. We all know Bush said he really wanted to be baseball commissioner, he said so.

But this stadium deal….I mean he and his billionaire buddies buy this team. Then, these billionaires mind you, they then use the TAXPAYERS to subsidize/create a profit for them. I mean they have a tax passed to finance a stadium, then they get the state legislator to grab some peoples land nearby and threw that in the deal.

They then sign a sweetheart lease which gives them ownership of the whole thing, sell the whole works…Bush personally puts in 606 grand and takes out 15 million.

I know nothing was said to be illegal, I know other groups of wealthy people, who can afford to take investment chances on their own instead of getting the taxpayers cover their behinds, do it, I know it is done elsewhere..but..

Well, how does this sit with who he says he is and who you THINK he is? You know, what he stands for… Isn’t he suppose to hate taxes? Doesn’t he stand against the evil government which sucks the citizens dry? I know the people voted for the tax and George was brought in to lead the effort to convince them they shopuld subsidize he and his billionaire friends pocketbooks, I know the people in Dallas love their baseball stadium, they should… they paid enough for it.

One of the biggest parts in all this was the land. The people who had their land taken had to go to court to get a fair price. Don’t remember the figures off hand but it was lot more than what they were offered. In an Austin paper Bush was quoted describling his groups plan by saying it was “a land deal all along.” It is my understanding that Bush and the billionaires had to go to the state legislature to OK the land grab, it wasn’t normal ’eminent domain’ or whatever.

I mean Clinton didn’t run on a ‘I will keep my zipper zipped’ platform, but overtaxing the citizens is suppose to be where your guy draws the line. oops, I just figured out part of how you can rationalize this. The tax they used for this was a sales tax and that doesn’t bug the wealthy much, does it?

BTW, the stuff I say about the stadium scam, I read in a long article in the American Spectator, believe it was the June of 99 issue. Check it out…

Oh, Oh, the guy who use to be Waxman’s counterpart in congress, Mr. Subpoena, I think he is mentioned here:
    http://www.freedomofmind.com/groups/moonies/parents.htm

Why is that ever right winger, when it comes to the hypocrisy bone, they are all filets? I mean when you rabidly go after Clinton’s zipper do you EVER think about Bush, “Hey, if Clinton did this I would be belly aching my ass off.”

I mean like letting the lie The Washington Times planted, er a, printed, that AF1 had been trashed by Clinton go unchecked long enough so the ‘followers’ could get mad and hate Clinton some more, that bother you? Lind of make think thatb is who these people are, what they do? Remember the one where Tony Snowe wrote ‘it was as if thieves had stripped AF1 clean”…you ever think that was wrong? Ever feel like you are being played for patsies? Or does none of this matter because God has chosen you as Bush’s warriors?

John McCain represents the Republican Party. The Goldwater Republican party. Bush represents a theocratic fascist mutation of the old republican party. Are any of you Goldwater Republicans, are any of you sad that Barry lost this fight?

    http://quotes.telemanage.ca/quotes.nsf/quotes/ffcc042fbd8c52708525698100716fcc

“However, on religious issues there can be little or no compromise. There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God’s name on one’s behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent.

If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both. I’m frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in ‘A,’ ‘B,’ ‘C,’ and ‘D.’ Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me?

And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of ‘conservatism.’ “

The date is planned well in advance, the ship was early…

    http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/122/nation/Bush_proclaims_a_victory+.shtml

White House officials originally said that Bush was making the dramatic jet trip because the ship was too far out to sea to be reached by helicopter. Bush was trained in ejection procedures and water survival in case of a crash. But the carrier was just 30 miles from shore by the time he arrived, and officials said it had slowed down so that Bush could spend the night on board before the USS Abraham Lincoln docks today, extending by one day the sailors’ almost 10-month deployment at sea, the longest by a carrier in 30 years.

    Sal,

    What officials?

That’s the point—the families were told when the ship was going to pull in, and were told weeks in advance. And carriers don’t just “get in early” or “get there late.”

    May 8, 2003 at 4:18 pm

“And carriers don’t just “get in early” or “get there late.”

Of course they don’t ‘get in early’ when they slow down so George can take a nap.

    Brandon,
I read somewhere where they met the original date, which was set well in advance. If you think Ari and the boys won’t hang their hat’s on that, I fear you are not paying attention.

I know you know enough about the navy and shipping to know vessels, on long trips in particular, do arrive ahead and behind schedule. If this carrier slowed one knot or veered one inch off course after what they had done for the country…. to slow these sailors arrival home one moment, it was selfish travesty. Especially when you KNOW it was done only to deceive the public into thinking that somehow the ‘leader’ is the only one who can protect them from the evil doers. Get out your 1984’s.

You know these people are deceitful, does it surprise you they would do something like this? Surely that wouldn’t surprise you.

    Nice and constructive, thanks Ricky.

Oh BTW, I meant to say, I don’t believe Jr. is in on all of it. He was the one who directly said “NOTHING WAS TAKEN FROM AF1” and finally squashed that one — but like so many lies the right believes it still stuck with a millions of souls. Ari and Rover sure were quick to make sure you knew the truth. My oh my.

The question is, why do you write intentional deceit off so quickly, and why haven’t you noticed it continuing throughout the ‘reign.’ Like someone commented on another thread, Bush the fly boy, Mr. Military and he is cutting money for Vets. Don’t you think that is deceitful? Doesn’t it bother you?

How often do you watch the “Clinton Chronicles?” Falwell sold 350 thousand copies of that. Completely discredited by the thinking world…millions of conservatives use it as base for their beliefs, that bother you? I bet a few things old Rush told you bubbled up from that video and you don’t even know it.

Did you know some people think that Falwell was paying Rev. Moon back for bailing him out when he shoved that piece of deceitful propaganda down millions of throats. (they showed it in church basements across the country, millions deceived)

Here this guy has financed your movement and has been pulling your strings and our country’s strings for a couple decades. Check him out he has declared it is time to ‘take down the cross’…yep, he says it is a divisive symbol which is slowing down his efforts to unite the worlds religions under his umbrella. haha Keep laughing.

This guy gave NK 3 billion while he was criticizing the ‘liberals’ for not supporting Star Wars to protect us from…you guessed it, NK. haha He has us all chasing our tails…wish Reagan and Poppy wouldn’t have helped him. Hey, he said you have to go through him to get the White House and he is 100% correct if you are a republican.

Here read this or at least check out the DIA docs at the end of the article. Talks about Moon buying NK submarines. What do you think about them apples? Former members say he bought 39. He says he bought them because they can help ease the pain of borders.
    http://www.consortiumnews.com/2000/101100a.html

Did you know Moon is handing out membership cards so his members will know one another when doing business and what not.(he plans a big move when the world’s economies go pop) Moon owns millions of acres of South America. You still laughing? Think Jim Jones on steroids, (unless you believe he is the messiah) that is what Poppy has helped empower, and Moon has NO intentions of being #2.

I enjoyed the stay. Please take some time and learn what is going on around you. John has been nice enough to leave this stuff up, look at it and then do your own searches and see if it starts to fall into place for you. Now I have to go take my meds. May 9, 2003 at 10:58 am

    steve,

Thanks for calling it excessive..and you don’t ANY idea what I am talking about,

You could at least cherry pick the most minor point and disagree and show why it is in error, that is what the right usually does. You know convince yourself you can ignore an entire message because you find one flaw. That’s the new right, a sense of proportion is not your strong suit.

What are you people afraid of?

Read ANY link on Moon and the right which I have posted in these threads and tell me where they are wrong, You call it tin foil hat because YOU know nothing about it and are afraid to look in the mirror.

Why do you react so well trained to ANYTHING that threatens the ‘leader’…your country is going over a cliff and you don’t give a damn…call yourself patriotic…bullpoop. You are afraid of the truth. Have you read any of it or like good little trained wingers you just call it crazy and put your fingers in your ears.

Keep this info my friend, put it on your wall at home and then when the day arises and you realize it is too late and YOU backed the people who made it happen, how about looking in the mirror and smacking yourself, you will deserve it.

Why are wingnuts afraid of anything which challenges the “leader’ you look foolish running to his side like you are trained.

If you spent two hours learning instead of hiding you would be more excessive about this than me. Moon and his influence is the evil in this country and you won’t look because you are not allowed. You have given up your critical thinking to Rush and the right. Very sad indeed.

What’s amazing is your party’s love for this guy. That doesn’t bother you? He detests ‘American style democracy’ has stated he will push us to a theocracy, has financed the religious rights takeover of your party and YOU don’t give a dam. sheeesh.

Ask your Momma what she thinks of the moonies and ask her if Bush and the right helping him is a good thing. Ask her, are you afraid? YES you are. I mare convinced daily the right are scared and need Bushy to protect them from the evil lieberals. hahaha Bush just gave the moonies 475 grand to teach your kids abstinence. You ought to read what they teach.

Hey, did you send out Hillary dumping on the gold star mothers email today. I got it again today from some more of your trained brethren. Like all of these e-mails it was forwarded hundreds of time so the pod people can hate her a little more, doesn’t matter that it isn’t true, truth is something for others, you have evil liberals to defeat, and fascists theocrats like Moon to support…you are the party of character, hahhaa YOu are the party full of characters……

I came here to pass this message, you know nothing about it, it challenges your belief system so it is excessive, tin foil hat. Think about that, think about the importance of the subject. Let me ask you if what I say is true would it bother you? Well if it does, get bothered because it IS true.

You spent years chasing Clinton Gore over ‘foreign influence’ and your party works with Moon, hahaha Do you see how hypocritical that is??

Gang this started a LONG time ago, they have been working you for decades and judging by the closed mindedness here, I am becoming convinced it is too late. They have you.

Here, do congressional investigations mean anything to you? Sure doesn’t mean anything to your party.

    http://www.freedomofmind.com/groups/moonies/fraserport.htm
Alan Tate Wood, a former UC member who had been president of the FLF, described to the subcommittee some of Moon’s political ambitions and activities. He said that Moon, through the UC and its numerous front organizations, wanted to acquire enough influence in America to be able to “dictate policy on major issues, to influence legislation, and move into electoral politics.”(228) In the United States, the political goals of the UC and those of the KCIA “overlap so thoroughly as to display no difference at all.”(229) Wood also charged that Moon was violating U.S. laws by importing aliens to raise funds and that fundraising by UC members was often done under false pretenses.

Another witness, Robert Roland, (230) described his friendship with Pak Bo Hi when Pak was a military attache at the Korean Embassy in Washington in the early 1960 s. According to Roland, Pak was then engaged in intelligence liaison work and was also proselytizing for Moon and the UC. Pak told Roland of his plans to use the KCFF and one of its projects, the Little Angels, to advance Moon’s cause, as well as to help the Korean Government. (231)

    —

    http://www.consortiumnews.com/archive/moon3.html
At times, Moon’s penetration of conservative ranks has raised red flags among Republicans. In 1983, the GOP’s moderate Ripon Society charged that the New Right had entered “an alliance of expediency” with Moon’s church. Ripon’s chairman, Rep. Jim Leach, R-Iowa, released a study which alleged that the College Republican National Committee “solicited and received” money from Moon’s Unification Church in 1981. The study also accused Reed Irvine’s Accuracy in Media of benefitting from low-cost or volunteer workers supplied by Moon.

Leach said the Unification Church has “infiltrated the New Right and the party it [the New Right] wants to control, the Republican Party, and infiltrated the media as well.” Leach’s news conference was broken up when then-college GOP leader Grover Norquist accused Leach of lying. (Norquist is now head of Americans for Tax Reform)

    Ricky,
those links are full of well documented fact but I am sure you know that because you looked. Or did you? haha

I wonder, knowing you don’t have any understanding what is in those links, why do you brag about having a closed mind.

Do you ever feel like the kennel just can’t hold you?

Tell me, what did your momma say when you told her Reagan and Bush had Moon for a VIP guest at their inaugural? Ask her? Are you chicken?

Remember the congressman who kept supporting Nixon and said at one point, “Don’t confuse me with the facts.” Sound familiar?

There are a couple minor errors in a couple of those articles, but the same story is basically repeated over and over. It is a very long story, how a cult leader co-opted of political movement. Not pretty Ricky, but true none the less. I know a LOT of people who wish you could prove any of it false. Please try.

Doesn’t it say in the bible your institutions will fall before you…well they are falling my friend, your party has some splianing to do to the American public.

Conservatives would NOT be in power without Moon. Something to be proud of when you look at those approval ratings. Did you know Clinton’s approval rating was like 76% the day he was impeached? I guess that means if the country is fooled it is OK, that makes it right.
