I watched in horror today as the Cuban men tread water for hours in a desperate attempt to reach Ameriica, and it seems to me our Dry Land policy simply has to go. I understand that these men are committing a crime- but I don’t recall ever throwing anyone over the Berlin Wall into the hands of the totalitarian Soviet Bloc. Either we end the policy so there is less incentive for them to reach shore, or we simply open up our borders to Cuban refugees. I understand the costs and the trouble this will cause Florida, but I am in favor of the latter- we are a big and prosperous country, and we have room for those fleeing tyranny. That is why we are here, isn’t it?

I agree. People who want into this country as badly as those men did deserve a chance.

Couldn’t agree more.

I agree. Cuban or Haitian… if they’ll cross that much open water in a small boat, let ’em in.

Fleeing tyranny? My god can American’s get over themselves? Stop buying into the propaganda of your own government, that’s what the Cuban’s swimming accross do, and many return after finding life in America even harder.
Roger del Pino
Jane, please do not lose yourself in the reality of the situation in Cuba. I myself am Cuban and hearing your oblivious comments about the situation in Cuba saddens me. Castro’s regime is directly responsible for countless acts of inhumanity toward their own people. Why else would 100s and thousands of Cubans risk their very lives to reach the U.S. Shores. Freedom, Escape from a crumbling Economy and a pursuit of happiness.
