Send them the heating bill when hell freezes over?

There might actually be hope, John. Call the IRS helpline – A colleague noticed an error on his taxes 9 months after they were filed. The IRS walked him through a refile and sent him a check. They also sent him a check for the previous year because he had made the same mistake two years running.
It shocked the hell out of me too!

Even though the refund check is actually a Treasury check (technically, not an IRS check) the Treasury refers you back to the IRS for help with IRS refund checks. See here

And visit a local office, check in hand.

Three steps involved:
1. Send me a copy of your tax return for the year in question.
2. Include your social security number, bank account number, and approximate date that you last saw the check.
3. Mwu-ha-ha-ha-ha.
:-) Good luck.

I had this same problem with a New Jersey state tax refund; I called the customer service line, told them the check number, and they cheerfully and promptly sent out a new check.
If you want something done right, trust bureaucracy.

The IRS is full of ****. They told me my refund check was direct deposited on Feb 6 here it is almost 15 days later still no check. Why don’t the pick on the people who owe them not the ones they owe…..
