Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Giving up is unforgivable.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

Books are my comfort food!

Let there be snark.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

So very ready.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

Patting Myself on The Back

By the way- all of you can now stop by the comments and heap praise on me for my political prowess. On May 23rd, I wrote the following:

Dean seems to have a shot because he is strident and angry, and he appeals to the fringe elements of the Democrat party who are just bitter and angry. That counts, for now.

A few weeks later I predicted that Dean would definitely win the nomination- which puts me two-three months ahead of the media and the Boston Globe’s man on the blogstreet, Oliver Willis, who just jumped on the Dean bandwagon a few days ago.

If I am a fringe member of the party, who represents the “mainstream” to you? A scold like Joe Lieberman who is considerably to the right of the average American? I won’t deny that when it comes to social issues I’m a libertarian, but I still feel that America hasn’t lurched far enough to the right so that being in favor of a smaller government, budget surpluses, and a strong and cohesive foreign policy would make me fringe in any way.

OLiver- I think of you as a liberal, and you are as partisan as they come (which oft times makes you sound as if you were a member of the fringe left). I am as partisan as they come as well- even though I am furious with a lot of aspects of the GOP. For the record, most liberals share the majority of social positions with libertarians.

BTW- I am sorry the juxtaposition of a past post and this post made you think I was calling you a fringe lefty. You misread the post.

I’d agree – Oliver, when you expound on your ideas you usually come off as logical and somewhat centered. But your site leads me to believe otherwise when every post is “Democrats this”, and “die Bush that.” If you put the same moderation in your posts as you do your comments, then it would be much more obvious. But we can only see what you allow us to see.

Huzzah, Huzzah, for Mr. Cole, known also as John,
Who when it comes to predicting, is bullseye — spot on!
    He’s the pundit,
    Who’s gone and doned it,
And hit the nail on the head — well done!

Mr. Willis, please restrain your argumentive tone. We are basking in that pure light of prognostication which is John Cole in this particular comments thread, and do not wish to be disturbed. Thank you.

“die Bush that”? I don’t even know what you’re talking about. I think I’m pretty moderate in my posts, compared to the folks who whine about “Amerikkka” or “Anti-American Libruls”. Eh.
