Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Bark louder, little dog.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

After roe, women are no longer free.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

“But what about the lurkers?”

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

All your base are belong to Tunch.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Sheer Genius

Since it is so small, the Wright Bros. represent “Iraqi Democracy” while the Donkey signifying the Democrat Candidates remarks: “12 second? That’s It?! What a Miserable Failure!”

Here is a larger version.

Remember this?

If my opponent had been at the moon launch, it would have been a risky rocket scheme.

If he had been there when Edison was testing the light bulb, it would have been a risky anti-candle scheme.

And if he had been there when the Internet was invented…

He now leads — he now leads the party of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, but the only thing he has to offer is fear itself.

Fear, failure, and lies- the DNC trifecta.

    Trade ya.

Images don’t work in comments, cartoon is here. Tiger labeled Iraq is devouring Uncle Sam. “W”, the tamer, says, “Relaz, it’s part of the show.”

    Dukakis for President!

    Can ya believe those Cubbies?

    I mean wow.

That guy in the stands better know someone in South America…

Oh yeah, I blame the Bush Tax Cuts!

The difference between the two cartoons is that I have the Democrats on record doing what my cartoon says- your cartoon is just part of an irrational suspicion of Bush.

Actually, John, ol’ Andrew’s link was obviously made to underscore your final comment in the post. Fear, failure, and lies — his cartoon uses all three in one neat package.

You have a record of the Democrats’ calling the Wright Brothers a failure? Obviouly not. You’re operating under the logical fallacy refuted by the following (that I’ve seen attributed to Carl Sagan, but havent been able to source): They laughed at Newton. They laughed at Fulton. They laughed at Einstein. BUT THEY ALSO LAUGHED AT BOZO THE CLOWN.

Just to make sure — we should not monitor any particular venture for signs of success or failure, because any claim that it is failing is automatically inappropriate naysaying?

No, Kimmit, the context is that having a predetermined assessment of “it’s a failure” (no matter what happens) has become amazingly apparent. There are successes & there are failures….but dishonesty has swept away impartial analysis in lieu of partisan politics.

It sorta reminds me of the “well, Reagan was right about the USSR, so we’ll just say it was gonna happen anyway, since everything we predicted never came to fruition”.

Kimmitt- Generally, most Doctor’s examine a patient before declaring it dead. Not so with the Democrats and Iraq.

They laughed at Newton? Who’s this “they” you’re talking about? Everything I’ve read about Newton indicates he was taken very seriously. And by the time Einstein had any fame at all, he’d already shown himself to be a thinker of some regard.

Not only is the logic faulty, so are the premises of your attempt at illustrating a fallacy. It should also be noted that cartoons are not about logic; frequently they’re about irony. This is irony. Learn to savor it.

Andrews post made me laugh, so I guess that confirms the last part of his Sagan semi-quote.

Is this is how you respond to your significant other right after you’re “done” in twelve seconds?

“It wasn’t a massive failure honey. Honest!”

Just in case you haven’t been watching the clock, it’s been a tad more than 12 seconds since President monkey-in-a-flightsuit said “mission accomplished.”

Hesiod — I have no familiarity with the situation you describe. Is this yet another one of those “projection” things?
