The Mighty Reason Man
“Isn’t that stifling dissent?”
I do believe that we are way past the shelf life of the humor in that statement. The irony wasn’t particularly clever when Reynolds started throwing it around in March, but at least then it had the virture of novelty.
Maybe you’d like to go back into the good ol’ reliable Bag of Ironic Republican Attacks for such classics as “racist liberals who don’t want a color-blind society” and “elitist liberals who care nothing about the common man”? Or how about my all-time favorite, “class warfare!”?
Think of it in terms of pop music. Why go with something that became worn out beyond all reason relatively recently (think LFO), when you can go with something that was worn out years ago (think Styx)? At least then you have the chance of seeming all retro and cool, or even ultra ironic, like the creators of South Park having Cartman sing “Come Sail Away.”

“Mighty Reason Man,” perhaps the statement would stop being used if leftists stopped making fatuous accusations against the Administration and the Right in this country for stifling dissent.

Styx was great, btw.
