Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“But what about the lurkers?”

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

Second rate reporter says what?

I would gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Books are my comfort food!

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

This blog will pay for itself.

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

I guess Rush Limbaugh and Greg Easterbrook aren’t the only ones getting fired for their viewpoints:

Patricia Ireland, a prominent women’s rights advocate, has been dismissed after six months as chief executive of the YWCA of the U.S.A.

Dorris Daniel-Parkes has been named interim director by the National Coordinating Board of the YWCA, the organization said.

“We have the deepest admiration for Ms. Ireland’s dedication to women’s issues and social justice, but the YWCA has proved to be the wrong platform for her to advocate for these issues,” board chairwoman Audrey Peeples said in a press release.

True to Ireland form, it is someone else’s fault:

A former head of the Democrat group that calls itself National Organization for Women, she says right-wingers opposed her from the start because of her left-wing activism, because she admitted wanting to inject her politics into YWCA and because she lived with a woman in the 1990s while still married.

Once a victim, always a victim. Right, Patricia?

When Ireland was appointed a while back the appointment was discussed it on Alan Colmes radio show. Everybody was pissed because she wouldn’t talk about her religious beliefs. Some woman from the Traditional Values Coalition was saying something to the affect of “They should take the “Christian” out of the Young Womens Christian Association. I doubt anybody would have made an issue about her faith if she was the athiest version of Phyllis Schlafly. The right claimed to be upset about her faith and morals but it was about ideology.

Right, Drew. Because living w/ someone (and not just as “room-mates”) when you’re married to someone else, that’s just acting as a paragon of morality and faith, innit?

I think that her being affiliated with NOW would be enough to write her off in anyone’s book.
