Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

This fight is for everything.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

A Senator Walker would also be an insult to reason, rationality, and decency.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

No one could have predicted…

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Football Woes

Today’s Steelers/Browns matchup was as grave an insult to the game of football as burial in a pigskin coffin would be to Osama bin Laden. IN a matchup pitting the hideously inept vs. the woefully incompetent, the Steelers managed to pull out a win, 13-6

Actually, claiming the Steelers won isn’t really accurate. The Steelers didn’t really win, but,a s my brother stated, the Browns ‘just out-sucked them.’ In games like this, it really is a shame someone had to win. If the NFL really cared about the integrity of the game, Paul Tagliubue would have called the game after 3 1/2 quarters and declared that both teams are losers.

One positive aspect of rooting for a team that is now 4-7 is that I have no more pre-game rituals to adhere to, and I actually went to the kitchen to make a bagel and cream cheese DURING the game. We even had possession of the ball, and I said “To hell with it- I am hungry.” Later on, I actually even fell asleep during the third quarter and woke up at the start of the fourth. Surprise! The score had not changed.

At least we will draft high next March.

*** Update ***

Woah! WTF? Those Dolphins orangish whatever jersey’s are hideous. I can not adequately describe how bad they are.

Five Goddamned Turnovers! Moved the ball up and down the fuckin’ field at will and only came up with 6 stinkin’ points!

They break my heart every year.

My question is whose draft picks will suck more, Cowher’s or Davis’?

So who were the Browns? The “hideously inept” or the “woefully incompetent” ones? Personally, I say both describes them pretty well right now.

And about the Orange uniforms – I totally agree. I am appalled when the Browns wear them.

The Steelers are going to ruin this season. They are going to go on and win 6 or 7 games, miss the playoffs and end up with a middle of the pack draft pick.

They need to lose out the rest of the season. They need to go for the high draft pick. Whatever team that comes out of the North will be embarrassed in the playoffs.

I always love to see a Steeler win over the Stains, but this season is already lost, there is no reason they should start winning games only to make this a complete waste of a season.

Oh, and those Dolphins unis…they are just praying to God that by being in orange uniforms that somehow, the winning ways of the University of Miami might, just might, rub off on them.

    Pathetic.

I think they already have. Be careful what you wish for in preseason prayers.

Yet I have severe doubts about Cowher’s ability to use a first round pick effectively, so why not win just enough to get a cheaper mid-teen pick for the FO to blow instead of a really expensive top-8 pick.

Yesterday was ugly for both sides, and as a Pat’s fan, I was sad that Cleveland lost because I want the Bungles and the Browns pressuring the Ravens.
