Bad enough that someone published that hate-fulled horror, but to recognize it for some sort of award? I had to go find the Cartoonists’ Society homepage to confirm that it wasn’t some kind of sick joke.
What the fuck is their fundamental damage?

Why is this posted under the title “Loony Left?”
After all, the award was given by the British Political Cartoonist Society which has been around for quite awhile and doesn’t seem to have any particular political agenda.
The cartoon is a bit over the top by US standards but is actually pretty tame by European standards.

My apologies to Kimmitt. I should have known JadeGold would take the bait.
JadeGold – You’re deliberately being obtuse. Anti-Israeli policies, particularly against Sharon and the Likud Party, have been SOP for the left for years now. After the ’67 War much of the American and European left essentially abandoned Israel and found common cause with her enemies.

JadeGold
GL–You’re deliberately wrong.
And, again, you’ve failed to make the oh-so critical connection between the British Political Cartoon Society and the left.
We should remember this the next time we feel like unloading on Kimmitt; I for one am embarrassed that I even briefly thought that he would react to this in any way than in way he did, and I apologize for that.
As for JadeGold: note how he/she is carefully trying to frame this debate in terms of the British Politican Cartoon Society, I suppose because even he/she can’t hope to suggest that a cartoonist for the Independent (who, surprise, surprise, sponsors the contest) can be safely categorized as anything but a Lefty.
Nice try. Now shoo.
Moe
PS: Pissing and moaning about being told to shoo will only amuse me more, just so we’re clear. :)

Let’s see if we can break it down for Moe’s edification.
The British Political Cartoon Society gives a big award to a cartoon which Israel’s new-found friends find offensive.
Let us assume, for a moment, this cartoon is the most hateful, most reprehensible, most racist at ever perptrated on Judaism.
Somehow, this is award–given by an organization with no ties to the right, left, or center–is construed as act of hatred by the left.
Moe cannot explain why.
BTW, Moe, if you go to the BPCS site you can see last year’s winner–from the Guardian, with The Observer as runner-up.
I don’t need edification at all: a Hard Lefty anti-Semite drew a cartoon for a Hard Lefty paper and another Hard Lefty is trying to cover it up by blowing smoke around about the group that gave the award to the Hard Lefty anti-Semite in the first place. You’re pretending to misunderstand all of this, of course, but then we’ve come to expect it from you.
Actually, the point is that the Hard Lefty is trying to avoid being blamed for something which was not necessarily committed by her side.
I have no idea if the British Cartoonists’ Society is Lefty, Righty, or famously Independent. (Or, hell, Commie or Monarchie or suchlike.) She brings up a valid point.
Could we agree here that the mainstream of the European Left has demonstrably anti-Semitic tendencies (think Oxford’s treatment of Israeli scholars) while most American left-liberals do not?
The real “Loony Left” in John’s post is the European left, which makes most self-identified American leftists look conservative by comparison. No self-respecting American leftist would applaud blood libel, but I can’t say the same for Europeans.
And since JadeGold’s ignorance is surpassed only by her obstinance, perhaps Matt will be willing to inform our professionally sensitive JadeGold who the term the ‘loony left’ originally referred to…
John, since JadeGold is our resident expert on the British Cartoonist Society, I wouldn’t be surprised if she can also explain the use of the phrase “Loony Left” in Labour Party history.

Indeed–if one looks at the BPCS (an organization that’s been around over a century)–one can easily see it toes no particular political line.
Dupes like Matthew can shout ‘blood libel’ from the tops of their asthmatic lungs but the fact remains that political cartoons in Europe are generally more over-the-top than their American counterparts which seem quaint by comparison. Perhaps if our friends in the extreme right were to leave their trailerparks once in awhile…
What an amusing little wench this Jade troll is. What I want to know, however, is how you manage to hold on to the crying little girl, because her kind always run off with their tails between their legs when they pop by my place.
You have to admit, though. She’s kinda cute. Dim as a sack of nails, but still cute.
Lots of people leave your place after they stop by, sir. There are two major factors: the utter waste of time it is to attempt to discuss any issue with you or your posters, and the relentless physical threats.

Ah, Kimmitt, we wish you luck in your new love affair with JadeGold. You two will make a fine couple. Where may we send flowers?
Oh, Lord. Next Spatula will show up, and all of a sudden every single discussion will end with “Why don’t you buy plane tickets and get into a possibly lethal fight with me over a blog? The fact that you don’t means that you’re wrong about your positions!” I thought we had you little fascists safely quarantined over at the Rottweiler.

I can’t wait for Kimmitt to offer a defense for this travesty.

Reprehensible, yes. Unbelievable?
I only wish.

To say that the PCS has a political agenda is complete and absolute rubbish. Where’s your eveidence?
