Incredible as it may seem, some Democrats are actually trying to make a big deal about the absurd turkey scandal. Even more difficult to believe, the DNC’s own weblog, Kicking Ass, is actually trying to make the point that the turkey non-issue points to the larger credibility. Heh.
Who is advising these people? Are these guys all Karl Rove plants? Who is telling these knuckleheads what to do? Al this time, and I thought Amy Carter was the worst advisor the Democrats ever had.

Reader and commenter Tom Scott sends in this humorous Roger Staubach anecdote:
But he’ll never come up with a quote to match Staubach. The year after he retired (1980), he was in the booth during one Monday night game involving the Cardinals, who had their typical swiss cheese secondary and were getting scorched as usual. During the week before the game, President Carter, in a campaign speech (or perhaps in a debate with Reagan) had made some saccharine reference to his daughter Amy’s “fear” of a nuclear war. Staubach, with a perfect deadpan voice, remarked to Cosell as the Cardinals were being threatened once again, “You know, Howard, the Cardinals have the same problem as Amy Carter….They’re both afraid of The Bomb.” I don’t remember Cosell’s reaction, but the room I was in (which included many Democrats) didn’t stop laughing for the entire evening.

You know, John, many of the people complaining about the turkey and how this whole Thanksgiving day trip was just a PR stunt are also the ones complaining how Bush never attends funerals for soldiers. Can you imagine now if Bush DID go to a funeral what they would be saying? Why, it would be described as nothing more than a PR stunt!
Oh, and the bit how Halliburton supplied the turkey: priceless

Dude – that turkey is bringing the man DOWN! Don’t mess with those birds.

Let’s see: Bush sneaks into Iraq clandestinely to “eat” turkey with the troops–because after all, nothing’s too good for our boys–when in fact the whole thing is a stunt to juice his listing numbers. And the DEMS have credibility issues?

The video on Amy Carter and the nuclear issue is great. I googled it but can’t find it. Does anyone remember Roger Staubach getting in trouble when doing the announcing a football game and he remarked something about Amy said, the (?Cowboys?)had to watch out for the bomb. It was really funny but he came under a lot of fire. Maybe the first instance of PC.

Emma, come back and talk to us again when your candidate of choice isn’t getting endorsements from fictional characters :-)
Emma
Are you talkin’ Dennis “the future President” Kucinich? He’s goin’ all the way!
Charlie
Emma, I was going to be short with you about your comment on the turkey, but now I see that would be unkindness to someone who clearly needs medical help. Just lie down for a few minutes, put a damp cloth on your forehead, and call 911 — you’ll be all right if you just get treatment.

Kicking Ass? More like Sucking Ass I would say.
Donald Sensing
Carter’s concern was not about “nuclear war.”
It was about nukular war.

As Willis helpfully pointed out, Bill Clinton went to Kosovo to eat turkey with the troop too. No credibility problem and no attempt to boost numbers there though, I’m sure.

I tried to give a flying fuck, but then I saw that the Fed is still arguing that it can hold Hamdi indefinitely without charges or access to counsel, and I decided that I didn’t really care where the President ate his goddamn turkey this year, so long as he eats it in Crawford come 2005.
