Get ride of IE for starters. Mozilla Firebird is great.

Don’t have a lot of time, so a short answer is to search http://answers.google.com for lop.com.
Next step is to stop using IE. Try Opera, Mozilla, Netscape, or any other browser.. IE is chock full of holes. (I use Opera.. it’s a great browser)
If you need more help, I’ll be around later tonight (after midnightish).. catch me on ICQ.

Try Lavasoft (www.lavasoft.nu) or Spybot S&D (security.kolla.de). Since I’mm late to the game here, you may already have done that.

I’m using Opera right now (7.23, on Win XP). It seems slower than earlier versions, with long pauses during which it stops retrieving.
The interface and feature set are better than IE.
Safari on OS X is also v cool.

If you know the name of the program doing it and the folder, here is probably the easiest way. Windows will stop you manually deleting it because the files are in use.
So you restart the computer in DOS mode and then delete them from there.

First I’d look on groups.google.com. Then, I’d look in the registry using regedit.exe and in Windows’ other private places. And, as suggested above, I’d switch to MS-DOS to get rid of it if you can’t delete it because it’s running or writing to its files.

McAfee’s anti-virus program can get rid of spyware. I know exactly what you’re goin’ through because that stupid extra line got stuck on my screen several times. It’s unstable and my computer kept crashing.

I use both Lavasoft Ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy.
When used in combination, they’re hard to beat.

Those are all short term solutions to this sort of problem. The real answer is to get a Mac. :)
Ricky
Win2K+:
Control Panel\
Administrative Tools\
Services\
Sort by status & see what’s started. If you see it, right-click and stop it. Then, you can delete.

I use Spybot S&D. It has killed the lop.com crap from my system without a problem.

BTW Gary,
If everyone had a Mac, there would be all these people commiting resources to make these things for Macs. Mac’s biggest security feature is it’s low market share.

Opera is really a piece of fecal material MASQUERADING as browser-ware…

I’ll get a Mac when I decide that beta is superior to VHS.
I don’t know what’s worse, Mac users or athiests. :)

I hate to break it to ya Ricky but Beat had better video and audio reproduction than VHS when they were battling head to head back in the early 80’s. VHS won because there were no licensing fees and manufacturers could save $1 per unit. I’d almost guarantee you that your local television station uses Super Beta cameras for there mobile units, they’re practically standard because of their higher quality recording.
Oh, yeah. I’m a Mac user too.
