Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

I was promised a recession.

I did not have telepathic declassification on my 2022 bingo card.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Let there be snark.

Presidents are not kings, and Plaintiff is not President.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

No one could have predicted…

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Infrastructure week. at last.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Come on, man.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

The words do not have to be perfect.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Go check out this must read entry from the normally mild-mannered Jay Caruso.

It really is amazing, though. Do Democrats really think Republicans are evil and the enemy? I thought we shared the same general goals, we just have different routes to achieve those goals. Guess not.

“Do Democrats really think Republicans are evil and the enemy?”

Some do; not all, or even most.

Once again, I reiterate my point that Kevin Drum is not the reasonable, thoughtful liberal many once thought he was.

He’s a hack and a hater who has probably passed Atrios on the nutty scale and will soon be in Hesoid territory.

People just think he’s reasonable and harmless because of that picture he has on his sight in his Alex P Keaton, circa 1986 attire.

I will defend Kevin Drum, not on the substance of his post (Jay smacks it down pretty good), but on the charge he is in the league of Atrios or Hesoid. Not by a long shot.

“I thought we shared the same general goals, we just have different routes to achieve those goals.”

I share a lot of goals with rank-and-file Republicans. My in-laws, for example, want a lot of the same things I do; clean government, sensible environmental laws, balanced budgets.

But the Republican leadership (especially Tom DeLay and President Bush) does not want the same things I do. They do not want clean government; they do not want sensible environmental laws; they do not want balanced budgets. They view the state as their property and use it to distribute spoils to friends and political contributors. The Administration’s assault on the environment, with one or two exceptions, has been relentless. And they specifically do not fiscal sanity, because they seek to make it impossible for the Federal Government to provide social services by means of acquiring an enormous, unrepayable debt. Their vision of America, such as it is, is an enormous shout of “I’ve got mine!”

We share a lot of goals. We do not share those goals with House Majority Whip Tom DeLay or President George W. Bush.

Predictable, Kimmitt. Democrats good; Republicans evil. *yawn*

So, Slarti, DeLay and Bush represent the whole GOP?

BTW, I didn’t see the part of Kimmit’s post where he accused the entire of GOP of being “evil.”

Neither did I. Nor did I claim that he did. Just pinging him on his obsessive overuse of the completely irrational and unfounded notion that the Republican leadership wants to strip you of your civil rights, put arsenic in your coffee and take less of your paycheck in taxes.

    Wait…scratch that last.

The Republican leadership wants to strip you of your civil rights, is indifferent to the arsenic content of your coffee, and wants to reduce your tax bill. It also wants to bankrupt the Federal government and deny you services in value well in excess of whatever savings you might accrue.

Yep, Kimmitt, all of those are included in the nefarious agenda of the Republican party.

Hey, the current Party leadership’s agenda is laid out for everyone to see.

    My favorite parts:

“We oppose EPA management of Texas’ air quality levels.”

“The Party urges the limitation of jury service to those who are registered voters.”

“we support the repeal of all Motor Voter laws and urge re-registering voters every four years and requiring first time registrants to produce photo identification, proof of residency, and citizenship along with voter registration application.”

“The Party views any form of desecration of the American flag as an outward act of disregard for our nation and its people and advocates penalties for such acts.”

“Our Party pledges to do everything within its power to restore the original intent of the First Amendment of the Unites States and the concept of the separation of Church and State and dispel the myth of the separation of Church and State. ”

“We oppose the movement toward the legalization of illicit drugs.”

“We call upon the Texas Legislature to rescind no

and here I thought the Democrats were evil, wanting to enslave all minorities to the dole and rob us of our will to excel. To take all the money of people who achieve.
To destroy health care by blindly backing the trial lawyers and their many frivolous lawsuits. To weaken America so, that our enemies can take us over. To blame us for everything wrong in the world that has ever happened and ever will, to allow the environmentalist to run rampant with every unproven THEORY and thus destroy our economy. I thought Democrats were evil because they don’t want to raise the low, they want to bring the high down.

Wait, I guess all democrats are evil. well maybe not, most are just misguided.

Oh, and democrats, why do you support murderous regimes like the cabal running the so called palestinian-jordyptian fascists and persecute the only true democracy in the middle east? Why oh evil Democrats, do you hone your skills in anti-semitism?

When oh evil democrats will you abandon your leftward lurch and return to the center where most Americans reside.

Gee it sure is easy to think of someone as evil if they don’t agree with you. Thank goodness the world isn’t the way the fruitloops over at DemocraticUnderground think it is.

I’m registering democrat in my home state so I can help Howard the mad dwarf win and further destroy what exists of a cancerous party. Maybe the tremendous defeat he will bring to the democrats the will to allow them to come to their senses and become a viable party, not stuck in demonizing republicans.

BTW I don’t think the DemonRats are evil, they are simply misguided. (the evil references are just for illustration of what the Democrats do to Republicans)

“I don’t really think the Texas Republican Party platform has all that much to do with national policy.”

Given that the President of the United States and one of the most powerful members of Congress (two if you count Dick Armey) are from Texas, and presumably signed off on that idiotic document, how do you justify the statement that the Texas GOP has no sway over the national party?

Or are stupid words only significant when spoken by Democrats?

    Key word: presumably.

Stupid is stupidity, whether right or left of center. Note that I expressed the sentiment that a goodly chunk of the Texas RNC platform goes against my grain, and slides into outright unconstitutionality, as far as I can tell. Fortunately, the Texas RNC platform isn’t going to get ratified as federal law anytime soon.

You can cast me as one of those “all Democrats are stupid and evil” folks just as soon as you can dig up something by me that says as much. Until then, please don’t be…stupid, ok? Just as stupid when Dems do it as when Reps do it.

Don’t mean to paint you with that brush, Slartibartfast, but one of my pet peeves is conservatives who jump over every stupid thing said by anyone calling themselves a Democrat, while getting offended over quotes of actual GOP party policy.

Reminds me of something that Jesus guy said about specks in the eyes of others and beams in one’s own…
