If nothing else, John Edwards should get a Congressional Medal of Honor for this rare moment of Democratic honesty:
MATTHEWS: Can you talk to the people of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, et cetera, all those Rust Belt states, if you will, and you can promise
Josh
So because Edwards can’t promise that specific people won’t lose their jobs, there’s nothing that the President can do to help make sure that jobs in general are created?
James Joyner
Very refreshing. Although odd coming from Edwards, who seems to be making jobs the cornerstone of his campaign.
Gary Utter
It’s stuff like this that makes Edwards dangerous and frightening.
And no, Josh, there IS nothing ANY President can do to help make sure jobs in general are created. Well, aside from cutting taxes, that is.
Kevin
Or hiring more government workers, starting more public works projects, etc. All bad ideas.
It seems Sen. Edwards understands we live in a market economy, which means there is no way he can win the nomination.
Skip Perry
Dean’s been staying stuff like that the whole time…it’s part of his “you have the power” shtick. He can’t do it for you — you can do it. Or something.
Ralph Gizzip
That would explain why the Democrat party rejected Dean from Caucus One.

Gary Utter writes: “Well, aside from cutting taxes, that is.”
Gosh, it’s worked so well.
Lex
Cutting the *right* taxes works. When we have excess capacity, as we do now, a tax cut primarily targeting corporations and the investing class, as the Bush tax cuts have, won’t help much. What will help is a tax cut that will stimulate demand — i.e., one targeted toward people who will spend it right away.
Kimmitt
Right, and if Bush gave a rat’s ass about this country or its people, he’d enact demand-side stimulation and pull back on some of the deficit-exploding supply-side stimulation.
But he doesn’t, so there we are.
