Via Kaus:
Kerry gets a Mulligan from CBS, whose producer gives him a second chance to nail a too-long sound bite. Does Bush get do-overs? It’s bias I tell you! … Actually, of course, it’s the institutional needs of CBS–they have to have something to go on the news. The old strategy for a candidate was to say only one usable thing every day, and then the nets would have to go with that. Kerry may be pioneering a new strategy of giving the networks nothing usable, thus reducing them to utter desperation, after which they will probably give him free expert wording tips and accept a soundbite of twice they length they had originally planned…
Instapundit asks: “Is it Bias?”
Of course it is bias- but like most media bias, it is not bias because towards the left or the right, it is a built-in bias towards laziness. Most reporters don’t know much, don’t care much, and if given the choice, will take the easy way out. And the reporting shows it.

And the UN shows once again why many think it is nothing more than an international parliament of whores:
Secretary General Kofi Annan has combined his finding that hasty elections in Iraq are not feasible before the June 30, the end of American governance, with a determination to leave to Iraqis themselves the decision on the best alternative way of restoring sovereignty, United Nations officials said today.
“The ball is back in the court of the Iraqis and the C.P.A., with the U.N. willing to be called in to help as requested,” Mr. Annan’s spokesman, Fred Eckhard, said, referring to the American-run Coalition Provisional Authority.
Thanks for nothing. At least they are staying somewhat out of the way. Like the Democratic party, every time I see the UN given an opportunity to lead, they just drop the ball.

Wanna spook a Democrat? Sneak up behind them and yell “Nader in ’04!” Frightens the hell out of them, so much so that they are bringing out the goons:
Party boss Terry McAuliffe has just admitted meeting repeatedly with Nader to beg him not to run.
“I don’t want Ralph Nader’s legacy that he got George Bush for eight years in this country,” McAuliffe fretted on CNN.
“I’m urging everybody to talk to Ralph Nader. I’d love him to take a role with our party, to energize people, to get out there and get the message out.”
Speaking of that asshole McAuliffe- he was on the Big Show with John Gibson making the Bush AWOL charges again. According to McAuliffe, the records Bush has released ‘prove nothing.’
Trouble in Iraq, enormous deficits, numerous issues with which to capitalize upon, yet they seem to be happy to keep pushing moderates away from their party by either being outright liars or transparent phonies. The Democrats are unfit to lead.

Bill Moyers is leaving PBS:
Bill Moyers, whose weekly magazine “Now” on PBS has capped a 30-year career in TV journalism, is leaving the broadcast after the November elections.
His next venture: Writing a long-proposed book about Lyndon Johnson, whom he served before and during Johnson’s presidency.
“It isn’t because I feel old,” Moyers, 69, told The Associated Press of his decision, which he made official Thursday. “It’s because I feel compelled to do something else now, that only I can do – which is that book.”
The veteran journalist said he had pondered the new course for some time, and originally considered stepping down in June, when he turns 70. Instead, he will scale back his duties after that, but stay on through the presidential race.
I only hope they replace him with someone slightly less partisan. Maybe Howard Dean or Al Gore.

Let’s see what happens with this:
The House has approved a measure that would require ignition interlocks on every vehicle sold in New Mexico.
It would require the devices on new vehicles by 2008 and on used vehicles offered for sale by 2009.
Ignition interlocks prevent vehicles from being started when the driver is drunk.

SO- you are a well paid coach (overpaid) of a prominent Division I-A football team, and one of your former players claims she was raped. This is not a wise response:
Former Colorado kicker Katie Hnida said this week she was sexually assaulted by a teammate in 2000, after her final season at Colorado. Hnida, now a student at the University of New Mexico, said she does not plan to file charges at this time.
Hoffman said she was shocked by the allegation and urged Hnida, 22, to tell police. Barnett told reporters Tuesday he knew of no evidence to back up Hnida’s claim and said she had never told him about a sexual assault.
He also criticized Hnida’s ability as a player: “It was obvious Katie was not very good. She was awful … Katie was not only a girl, she was terrible. OK? There’s no other way to say it.”
Gary Barnett is lucky Osama is still roaming the planet, otherwise he would easily be the most despicable human being on the planet. I was half asleep last night when I heard his remarks, and I almost fell out of bed.
