Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Biden: Oh no. We’ve upset Big Pharma again.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Hot air and ill-informed banter

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself. We’re allowed to grow past that.

An unpunished coup is a training exercise.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

How Not To Support Our Troops

by John Cole|  April 12, 20046:14 pm| 16 Comments

This post is in: General Stupidity

I am just flabbergasted by this. TalkLeft links, uncritically, to this report that “Americans are slaughtering civilians” in what Jeralynn calls the ‘Fallujah Massacre.’

C’mon, Jeralynn- I know you have google. The author of the report is Dahr Jamail, Indymedia hero, a pretty well known anti-western activist/indpendent journalist. What does Jamail charge? Some tidbits:

– American soldiers have bombed a hospital and are sniping people who try to enter and leave hospitals

– American soldiers are sniping ambulances

– American planes are dropping cluster bombs on civilians

– Americans are shooting women and children (Jamail noted this in between gloating about how Americans would react to the armed children he was praising)

– Americans are shooting old men

– There is and never has been a cease fire

– This is just an excuse to kill Iraqis under the guise of arresting those who killed the Blackwater men.

Go read the report yourself– and then go check out Mr. Jamail’s other writings.

I guess ‘supporting our troops’ has now morphed from marching with ANSWER, voting for ‘Anyone but Bush,’ and passing on, uncritically, propaganda from dubious and unreliable sources that our troops are actively committing war crimes.

Do you honestly believe this report, Jeralynn?

Congrats, Phil

Phil Mickelson just birdied the 18th to win the Masters, concluding what may be the best Masters since 1986, and maybe one of the best ever. That back nine was non-stop insanity- two hole in ones on the 16th within ten minutes of each other (there had only been 7 in the entire history of the tournament before today), numerous eagles, and just unbelievable play from the entire field.

I am so glad Mickelson finally won the big one, and it was like he knew he was going to win as he walked up to his second shot on the fairway.

What a performance, and since he is my favorite golfer, I am thrilled. Congrats.

The Memo

by John Cole|  April 11, 20041:52 pm| 61 Comments

The memo has been released, and if you had any doubts that the left had any desire to do anything but to politicize 9/11, check out the Calpundit’s rhetoric:

Look, I know there’s a perfectly good case to be made that the PDB merely states generalities and doesn’t warn of a specific, impending attack. That’s fine as far as it goes, and it’s the spin I’d expect the White House to put on it.

It’s all spin in the weird world of Democrats. How about it is the truth?

*** Update ***

Link added- I thought I had done this originally, but I guess I was paying to much attention to the Masters and not enough to what I was writing.

Bad Campaign Ideas, Part 1

Clearly, this is not what the Kerry campaign in mind.

Kim Jong Il’s website hosted by the Kerry campaign.

Saddam Hussein has one too!

Here are the screenshots for when these pages get disappeared.

Something tells me this was not really well thought out by the Kerry campaign.

Political Grandstanding

I also am surprised that Kerrey stooped to the level of political grandstanding that he did, and I forgot to mention the most irksome (other any of the seeping idiocy that oozed from Ben Veniste) part of the Rice testimony:

KERREY: Let me move to another area.

RICE: May I finish answering your question though because this is an important point.

KERREY: I know it’s important. Everything that’s going on here is important but I’ve got 10 minutes.

RICE: But since we have a point of disagreement I’d like to have a chance to address it.

KERREY: Actually, we have many points of disagreement, Dr. Clarke. We’ll have a chance to do in closed session. You can’t – please don’t filibuster me. It’s not fair. It is not fair. I have been polite. I have been courteous. It is not fair to me. I understand that we have a disagreement.

RICE: Commissioner, commissioner, I am here to answer questions. And you’ve asked me a question.

Silly Ms. Rice. You aren’t here to answer questions- you are here for election year political posturing.

I never thought my opinion of Democrats could get lower, but they always manage to out-do themselves.

*** Update ***

Jeff Goldstein offers up this nugget:

The most interesting fact about yesterday’s Condolezza Rice testimony before the 9/11 commission? Of the 25000 or so words exchanged, Ms. Rice — whom the commission insisted needed to testify publically lest Truth be throttled — spoke only 15000 of those words, or sixty percent. The other forty percent of the time, television audiences were treated to Bob Kerrey throwing a salty, context-challenged testosterfit, or to Richard Ben Veniste attempting to play headline gotcha like some bitter, nerdy hall monitor avenging a G. Gordon Liddy wedgie.
