Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Everybody saw this coming.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Hot air and ill-informed banter

“But what about the lurkers?”

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

People are complicated. Love is not.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

The willow is too close to the house.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Brokaw’s Interview

I saw this interview, and I had no idea it had been edited like this. I am not sure why Brokaw/NBC would remove all of those pieces, because id did make Bus less coherent, and it did seem to distort the over-all feel of the interview.

Then again, maybe I do know why they edited it the way they did.

*** Update ***

Even my pinko-communist co-worker thinks this was a travesty. In his words, “it is one thing to show part of a speech, but to interview someone and leave out half the answer is ridiculous.”

This is why one should never, ever rely on TV – unless it’s C-span or live sports, I guess, for information. TV exists to sell advertising, and there’s only so much time that can be given up to the show, thus, there have to be edits somewhere. I think W did a good job of making it hard (talking fast) to edit him without it looking like he was edited (the “chopiness” of the interview was obvious) so anyone watching probably though it was a little weird. http://www.centerforriskcommunication.com/home.htm is a good source for info on how to talk “with” the media.

I bet the president whishes he could travel back in time and edit out the part of his MTP interview where he recalled an Oval Office meeting w/ Iranian spy Ahmed Chalabi. Bush seems to have forgoten that meeting, because in just the past couple of weeks he denied ever meeting Chalabi outside of a handshake. Weird.
