So President Bush honors former President Clinton and Senator Clinton at the unveiling of their portraits, arranging a reunion for senior Clinton staffers, and the folks at Pandagon see ulterior motives:
– “Finally, absolute proof that Bush really will try absolutely anything to get elected.”
– “Can it be…? Could Bush really be scrambling to revive that image of a moderate he sold so heavily in 2000?
If so, he’s really, really counting on the mass short attention span of the American people.”
– “I heard Bush say “President Clinton, Senator Clinton, welcome home” on the radio earlier and almost crashed my car.
Maybe Karl thinks a few well-timed photo-ops can make good on Bush’s “uniter” promise?”
The mind boggles.

After their week of Reagan bashing they don’t know tact or diplomacy when they see it.

This is the crowd that excused away the Wellstone “memorial.” This reaction isn’t surprising. Neal Boortz says it best:

A good way to tell someone is delusional is when any external fact leads them to similar conclusions.
Bush was gracious and non-partisan, hence he’s being underhanded and trying to screw over Democrats because he’s evil and ruthless.
Let’s say Bush instead made comments that were tepid or standoffish. The howling that would come from the same quarters would then accuse him of being uncivil, rabidly partisan and mean-spirited, a result of him being generally mean-spirited and ruthless.
Could these people please stop making such an embarrassing spectacle of themselves?
Kimmitt
Bush was gracious and nonpartisan, but it was quite out of character for him.
shark
Speaking of out of character, the Clintons seemed wide awake at the portrait ceremony, didn’t they?
THe trouble with Dems is they see everything as politics. It never enters their mind that there are at least some moments that politics are put aside.
I despise Clinton. I know everything Bush said about him was false. But even I thought it was right and correct for Bush to do what he did. That was NOT the proper venue for sleazy politics, something Ron Reagan should learn.
Steve Malynn
Tell me Kimmitt, one example of ungracious conduct on the part of Presidents Bush one or two.
Dean
Why, Steve, that’s EASY.
Dubya didn’t concede to Al Gore. Just as Norm Coleman didn’t concede, at Paul Wellstone’s memorial service, to Walter Mondale.
How much more ungracious can you get??
SDN
And meanwhile you’ve got Bill Quick at Daily Pundit calling Bush a wimp for not being rude and nasty….. I’d say that between annoying Kimmit and Mr. Quick, President Bush probably got it right.

One of the brilliant lights at Pandagon makes his living by shilling for Jerry Springer. Nuff said.
Gary Farber
I posted about how gracious I thought President Bush was, and some other thoughts.
I’m curious, though, John, about this obsession you have with seeking out and examining random comments on blogs and sites you know you disagree with, desperately seeking things to be offended by.
What would be your reaction to a blogger going through your comments, perhaps on a regular basis, and castigating “Republicans” and “rightists” with “proof” from comments people post to your blog?
Serious question.
How impressed would you be with such posts using, say, lucianne.com, or Free Republic? Would that impress you or convince you of anything?
Serious question.

How did anyone expect the President of the USA and a former President of the USA to behave at such an event? By participating in a cage death-match? I don’t think its a good thing when people are surprised that two adults who hold/held high political office are capable of comporting themselves in a civilized manner. When did our expectations for behavior by our public officials get so low?*
*Stir-up-the-troops political events are a different thing altogether and should be remembered for the propaganda events that they are, official duties and appearances are completely different.

Isn’t that what Oliver does?
ty k
“Isn’t that what Oliver does?” Yes, and Farber doesn’t say squat about that. Hmm, what is it with Farber’s obsession with right-wing bloggers? Serious question.
Kimmitt
Er, my point was that Bush did not annoy me and conducted himself in the fashion which I expect of an American President.
Terry
Kimmitt-Re your statement that Bush “did not annoy you,” can one safely assume that Clinton DID annoy you by certain of his non-Presidential actions while in the White House???
Kimmitt
Of course he did; having an affair while a man with a $30 million investigation machine is systematically taking apart your life was particularly stupid.
