Here is your quote of the day:
First off, the fall of the Berlin wall and communism was not solely the product of Ronald Reagan. He helped push, but nothing would have happened if the people of Europe didn’t want it. At the same time, Reagan and the right were so blinded in their quest against anti-communism that they ended up funding the same people who grew up to become Al Qaeda.
Discuss.
Slartibartfast
“quest against anti-communism”? Is this the same Ronald Reagan that was our President back in the ’80s?
Ricky
Ihate to say it but my cyber-buddy OW is putting up some posts that are below his normal standards, lately.
Fry cooks, Oliver? That’s the best you can do?
HH
The meme-o-matic spews out the talking points again… Now for the facts:
Dean
“if the people of Europe didn’t want it”?
These are the same people who staged the largest demonstrations up to that time, against Ronald Reagan, Pershing IIs and GLCMs, and for the nuclear freeze?
These are the same people who believed that Ronald Reagan was the greatest threat to peace? Who were protesting a couple of blocks away when Reagan made his “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” speech?
Wow.
Next, we’ll be hearing about how academics and liberals of the time all actually supported Ronny’s defense build-up, felt he was somewhat soft on the Soviets, and not one bought the idea that Andropov was actually a reformer, or supported a nuclear freeze or opposed both P-II/GLCM deployment AND opposed “double zero”.
Rick
Mr. Cole,
Please don’t post anonymous nonsense, with a link to Willis. I hate to be propelled into that alternative universe. Must be the Kryptonite getting to me.
That, or his photo. Whew!
Cordially…
Kimmitt
There is some truth there, but it’s through a dark, wavy glass.

Well shit! We should’ve had another 4 years of Jimmaah Cartah. After all, things were wonderful under him…

Kimmitt:
You mean the block quote part? Check your monitor. It’s gray, but not wavy at all….
Slartibartfast
I’m still confused about the “quest against anti-communism” remark. Can anyone explain to me how this doesn’t mean exactly the opposite of what Oliver ought to (given his history) have meant?
Kimmitt
I vote “typo.”
Brian
Gee, so using Oliver’s logic, they liked the Berlin Wall just fine until sometime right before or right after Reagan told Gorbachev to tear it down.
