David Brooks on the man the Democrats are embracing with open arms:
Like Hemingway, Moore does his boldest thinking while abroad. For example, it was during an interview with the British paper The Mirror that Moore unfurled what is perhaps the central insight of his oeuvre, that Americans are kind of crappy.
“They are possibly the dumbest people on the planet . . . in thrall to conniving, thieving smug [pieces of the human anatomy],” Moore intoned. “We Americans suffer from an enforced ignorance. We don’t know about anything that’s happening outside our country. Our stupidity is embarrassing…”
In the days after Sept. 11, while others were disoriented, Moore was able to see clearly: “We, the United States of America, are culpable in committing so many acts of terror and bloodshed that we had better get a clue about the culture of violence in which we have been active participants…”
In an open letter to the German people in Die Zeit, Moore asked, “Should such an ignorant people lead the world?” Then he began to reflect on things economic. His central insight here is that the American economy, like its people, is pretty crappy, too: “Don’t go the American way when it comes to economics, jobs and services for the poor and immigrants. It is the wrong way.”
I wonder if any Democrats have ever read the Rime of the Ancient Mariner?

With the wag going on about MM’s new socalled documentary, spoof, mockumentary, or as I like to call it CRAP. It is like eceverything that Moore has done, it looks like a high schooler did it for a assignment. But then witht he mentality of folks that are running In the Democratic Parties circles it is understandable while Moore would be classified their leader. They need to take the spotlight off of their candidate, who is so boring and never has anything to really say. Why is that now he is coming up with all these ideas to fix what is wrong with America, but while he is a Senator, he has not issued one piece of substantial legislation. Now that Clinto is out telling more lies on the National circuit, trying to make the American public see him as the Victim, instead of the criminal that he truly is. Gore, where do I start with him? I would begin by saying that somebody juiced his tea with some excitement, unfortunately it wasn’t with truth serum. Air Amerika is just giddy with the ability to put Clinton back on the air of course in a taped interview and not in person where people could call in and question him.Moore is just a large tub of self absorbed crap. I haved watched his last three movies pior to this and had to shut them off before my blood pressure was to high. His book is totally unreadable and hard to follow. So if the DEM’s are putting their faith in teh not so jolly fat man for Flint, they are are going to reap what they sow. A defeat in November.

That’s an amazing response, Oliver.
Y’know, when I heard that Pat Robertson was coming pretty close to saying we, the US, had brought terrorism on ourselves, my first response was not to look for leftist blowhards who’d said things just as bad; it was, rather, “What a fucking asshole!”
You’ve got a guy, more or less on your side, that many people definitely on your side won’t repudiate, running us down, calling us stupid and malicious, and if not approving of terrorism against us, at least asking, Well what did we expect?
And when that’s pointed out, your response is, basically, So’s your old man.
How ’bout, the guy’s still an asshole. Even if Coulter, Limbaugh, and Hannity are assholes.

“Don’t go the American way when it comes to economics, jobs and services for the poor and immigrants. It is the wrong way.”
It seems Lardass has taken every advantage of the “wrong way” American economy to become fabulously wealthy. One of the great things about America is that even a ungrateful asshole can achieve the American dream. The most hilarious part of it all is that Moore made his millions by fleecing the liberal sheep. And it isn’t the poor and immigrant sheep he fleeces either, they can’t afford his caliber of entertainment. It’s the wealthier more educated sheep that keeps Moore in Ho-Hos. These sheep are so enthralled with fatboy’s affirmation of their own suspicions and beliefs that he now will be able to turn out effortless unentertaining crap and they will gobble it up at $15.00 a pop, Moore’s cheesy plan for getting rich was, and is, brilliant and a true sign of American can-do spirit. Oh well some people will eat shit if you tell them it’s free, in Moore’s case he requires a nominal fee.

I stand by my earlier post. I do agree that Hannity, Limbaugh, Colter, and the rest of the talking heads for the rights are just as bad as Moore, but they don’t charge you to hear their spin. If you don’t like it there is always the on/off selector switch so you don’t have to. But with Moore being the darling of the moment for the Dems you can’t watch the news with out his moon pied face showing up on the screen. Now they are again callin it a documentary. The left just can’t seem to figure out what to call Moore’s piece of Crap. I call it crap. He calls it a spoof, i also call it the Sh*t.

JPS, how about if I put it this way. For the sake of argument, let’s assume Moore was as dishonest in this movie as his earlier ones (although I think this may not be so).
Limbaugh and his ilk have a lot to do with the fact the Republican Party took over the Congress in 1994 (probably Rush’s apex of influence) and have kept it since: exciting the base, sowing confusion in the hearts of the liberals (even when the liberals were right, or at the least the attacks were inaccurate), taking the opponents off-message. I appreciate your calling these people assholes, but unless you have a program to abolish the asshole vote (and the humongous I-was-influenced-by-an-asshole vote), I’d like to see what our side can do to level this playing field. I can’t tell you (although I’m trying) how happy I was to see Al Franken’s book—and fact-wise, Franken is way above Moore—leading the best-seller list after months of Coulter and Hannity crap.
