Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

We will not go back.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Hell hath no fury like a farmer bankrupted.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

No posting until I can get rid of the asshole spammers and some other stuff. We are also upgrading the comments and to a new version of MT.

Also, blogads are helping, but I need to raise about 150 bucks for domain name and server related things. IF you are interested in chipping in, please hit the paypal button here:

Thanks in advance!

If you have no objection to using a foreign server you can save some money. I changed my businesses web site server to an Ozzie server a short time ago. My web site cost me $80.00 Australian. This is about $56.00 US. I get 50MB MB Disk Storage Space, 20 GB (20,000MB) Bandwidth Allowed Per Month and 50 E-mail Accounts.

LunarPages seems to have a deal that’s attractive in some ways, not attractive in others. See http://www.lunarforums.com/ It would cost about $120/year for servlets, $96 without. The downside is they don’t give you shell access, which is something I’d be very uncomfortable not having. And, to get that rate you need to pay a year in advance.

See this for info on how I removed old spams. I recently got about 70 comment spans in one four hour period. I was able to remove all of them fairly quickly by selecting distinct URLs from the comments received in that period and then plugging those URLs into my comment deleting Java program.

OK, JC, I put some coins of the realm in your begging bowl.

Now, I ask that you not be so quick to delete my comments, should I again, in the future, make an observation about the shape and shine of Oliver’s head.

I cannot imagine how everyone else can resist.

    Cordially…

    http://www.jatol.com – best and cheapest I’ve found.

WordPress beats MT hands down. Moderates comments if you want, something promised (and not delivered) in MT.

    Much, much faster too.

Oh, in the short term, two recommendations:

    1) rename mt-comments.cgi to something damn obscure.

    2) MT-Blacklist. Not perfect, but makes getting rid of a lot of comments easier.

If you need help with the update please just let me know, John. I can get you upgraded to MT 2.661 and the latest blacklist for nothing, and have it done this evening if you need it. Upgrading beyond that, we can discuss options.

Since installing MT-Blacklist, getting rid of spam is almost fun. I love looking at my log and seeing 40 comments denied. :)

Yeah, but they’ll then change a letter or word & then retry the robots. I added 70 sites to my mt-blacklist & still kept getting spammed. Not all that often (maybe twice per week), but it’s still 5-10 minutes of deleting comments and rebuilding (lord, did I hate rebuilding) that I’m glad to be away from.
