I think you’re over-reacting John. I’m certain the CJR is, for printing that buffoonish column.
Politics is a contact sport, but that don’t mean constant touching. So jokes get made; no one is hurt.
Cordially…

I’m sure that Campaign Desk will next eviscerate Jay Leno for making the same comments…

there will be, no doubt about it, Bush voters galvanized by this line of attack. Rove + pals probably know exactly how many. They’ll be giving every prejudice a little drop of fertilizer in the coming months. Just enough so that the homophobes know who to vote for and turn out on the day. Moonies! They sure know.

On the one hand, I agree that John and John are not gay. Obviously any insinuations to the contrary are ridiculous, and criticisms based on such insinuations nothing but frosting.
On the other hand, except to the extent that people actually believe their incessant touching is a strike against them (as in the Washington Times article), making fun of politicians is older than time, and shouldn’t be criticized as such. “Bush is dumb!” is cheap mockery, but if you like cheap mockery, more power to you. I don’t read humorous posts on blogs (for example) and assume that the humor directly translates into a legitimate policy reason to vote to or for anyone, but I certainly enjoy laughing at the humorous blogs.
