The best comments about Fahrenheit 9/11 since Hitchens:
Halfway through Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 there is a shot of a lone state trooper keeping vigil over thousands of miles of Oregonian coast. The trooper looks wholly inadequate to the task, a sense compounded by a deadpan tour of his empty station. Because of public-safety cutbacks, Moore tells us, Oregon has been left dangerously unprotected. Homeland Security, he says, is a sham.
It’s a funny scene, and I’m sympathetic to the argument. But I also know that Oregon has almost no police because its residents, in a referendum held last year, refused to raise their own taxes

I don’t think Oregon has “thousands of miles of coast”.
It is closer to three hundred miles. But I guess a documentary only presents a point of view.

John,
‘Bout time you got back. Continuing to bitch, let me note that the break caused your spelling to suffer.
Cordially…

Quite frankly, anyone saying that F911 is in any way factual, who hasn’t read this is not a person worth wasting your time with…

The officer is question was never even notified that he was being filmed for Moore’s movie. He was told that, he was being interviewed on a possible movie about Homeland Security.
The reason we have fewer Patrol Officers on the streets is due to the fact that the State Of Oregon is the largest employer in Oregon.
The government is so liberal it is laughingly called the hemp government. If it is going to cost the citizens of Oregon money the government is behind it 110%. They have a spending problem that is out of control and unfortunately the population of the three largest cities. Portland, Salem, and Eugene are liberal havens. Hell, even one of the Portland Seven convicted of Terrorism was working for the City Mayor.

IIRC, the tax referendum was for “single payer” health care within the state (or, maybe I’m thinking of WA?).

Speaking of inaccuracies, I realize this is highly specialized, obscure, technical knowledge, which I alone am apt to be familiar with, which is why no one here commented, and why the truth is hidden from the author of your quote, but — daring to reveal this top secret info:
The people of Idaho and Nevada will be thrilled to learn this.
Slartibartfast
Heh. Two whoppers in two paragraphs. Hope he’s watching.

Gary- But neither Nevada nor IDaho has an International border, whereas California and Washington do.
Slartibartfast
Ah. Still inaccurate, but now a possible intended meaning might be apparent. Something like: Oregon’s insulated from Canada by Washington, and from Mexico by California. More cumbersome, but certainly less of a head-scratcher.

Idaho borders Canada.

Gee, I never associated “Jane from Classless Warfare” with “naked lust for power.”

Moore has always been an idiot, but he gets more dishonest by the picture.
I guess it takes a real moron to sit credulously through that tripe.

“…and Jane usually isn’t the wild-eyed aluminum foil hat type.”
I agree. She is merely dumber than a block of rock salt.
Tongue Boy
“The scene was vintage Moore. The facts don’t add up but the shot looks good, so let’s roll tape and hope no one notices. Moore wants his viewers angry, not educated, and he represents what he claims to loathe, which is the triumph of imagery over substance.”
Substitute the word “horny” for angry and you get a good description of contemporary sexual pornographic “cinema”. Forget the substitution and you get a good description of contemporary *political* pornographic “cinema”.

man – talk about your friggin inaccuracies. Get ’em by the bushel in that quoted verbiage – and your own.
How does this:
The reason we have fewer Patrol Officers on the streets is due to the fact that the State Of Oregon is the largest employer in Oregon.
The government is so liberal it is laughingly called the hemp government. If it is going to cost the citizens of Oregon money the government is behind it 110%. They have a spending problem that is out of control and unfortunately the population of the three largest cities. Portland, Salem, and Eugene are liberal havens. Hell, even one of the Portland Seven convicted of Terrorism was working for the City Mayor.
jibe with your assertion – and your quoted one’s assertions – that these LIBERAL QUAGMIRES, refused to raise their own taxes.
I can always tell when I’m around conservatives — Does not compute, nor make sense.
In your “naked desire” to post something earth-shattering you just posted something shat.

“State Of Oregon is the largest employer in Oregon.”
The State is the largest employer in most states, except where the Federal Government is. There’s something about having to provide services to every single human being in an area that requires staffing.

I’m still amused at how many conservatives get so worked up by a film. In this case – how many of the same people would get worked up by Cheney? There’s a great Daily Show, where Cheney is interviewed, and the interviewer mentions something Cheney said in the past. Immediately, Chenyey blusters, “I never said that – never said it!”.
And then, Daily Show plays the tape where he says EXACTLY what the reporter claimed he said. It was funny. And, of course, a lie. As he is continuing to “mislead” based on actionable relationship between Iraq and Al-Queda.
So, why the double standard, when this was an actual-caught-on-tape lie?

“Gary- But neither Nevada nor IDaho has an International border, whereas California and Washington do.”
In response to my response to “For that matter, Oregon is surrounded by California and Washington.”
John, a) “surrounded by” has a simple meaning. That’s all there is too it. Period.
b) As a point of complete trivia, a coastline on the ocean is not considered an “international border.”
Sheesh, a simple “gee, good point” would have been a heck of a lot less silly.
But what do I know, I grew up in NYC, a land with an “international border” with South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, apparently, and which is possibly “surrounded by” Greenland and Cuba. Or New Jersey and Connecticut, at least.
Funny man.
;-) (“Never give in, never surrender” is not actually the most useful political slogan, I suggest.)

Andrew,
Excuse my last post but, the reason that Oregon has so few Officers on the street is becuase the Local government is so top heavy with advisers and elected officials cronies and bad deals made with employees union that most of the Tax base is going to Pers Retirees. Because they tried to hook the pention fund to the stock market thinking the golden goose was going to last forever, but unfortunately didn’t. The other part of that is when you have salaried employees retiring from their present jobs and earning their pentions, then being hired back at two or three times their normal pay as consultants and continuing to collect their pensions there is something seriously wrong.
Sorry that my early post did not explain that well enough for you learned ass to understand but, hopefully this will shed a little light on it for you.
I also am not a conservative. It might actually surprise you to learn that I hold both liberal and conseratives views on different topics.
so excuse the shat!!!!!!
