Exceptionally Poor Rhetorical Choices

Kennedy’s speech was certainly very poor, reminding us why Clinton is such a giant in the party. He said several odd things, including the one mentioned; criticizing Bush for being part of a dynasty (?); and emphasizing the ‘under God’ part of the pledge. The more welfare-state element was slightly more convincly heartfelt. But the overall feel was of a vast ramble across every thing he might have been expected to say with a half-hearted attempt to personalise with local colour.

I don’t know what the problem is. How is this different from any other Bush=Hitler, or “Bush is a lynch mob leader”, or “Republicans like to starve little black children” crack?
No accusation is ordinarily too vile for the Dems to lob at conservatives, libertarians, or Republicans – so I’m wondering if the upset is because Onkel Teddy broke ranks on the positive-plastic-fantastic message that the Kerryites apparently mandated.
