Swift Boat Vets Ad #2
This ad has much more — interspersed with excerpts from John Kerry’s testimony TO Congress as a member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War in 1971, wherein Kerry called US servicemen rapists and murderers, are reminiscences from three vets who serve…
Swift Boat Veterans for Truth Release Second Ad
WOW! The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth have released their second ad “Sellout”, and it is devastating. It gave me serious chills. No wonder the media assault began yesterday, they probably knew this ad was about to be released. Chris Matthews is goin…

Holy shiite. You have to hand it to these guys. They’re smart. This time, it isn’t a he said/he said scenario. Those are Kerry’s words.
Now, the spin will probably be along the lines of, “Senator Kerry was only repeating what he had been told.”
Big whoop. He shouldn’t have been repeating in the United States Senate, charges he could not verify.
JKC
You mean unsubstantiated stuff like this?
Mark
Hey, if Oliver can post up lies about Michelle Malkin, it shouldn’t be much of a stretch for him to diss a few POW’s.
Jay
JKC, is a link to the My Lai massacre going to be the new talking point?
Kerry himself said he took part in ‘atrocities.’ Saying he took part in them implies that others did as well, and they had to be following orders to do it.
Kerry is a Swift Boat Veteran and therefore is directly fingering SB Vets as war criminals. He has to answer two questions:
1. Who else committed these atrocities with you?
2. Who ordered you to do it?
Rick
Easy on JKC now, Jay. The “juice” is draining from HIS precious balloon.
Har-de-h…I mean, cordially…
JKC
Jay, Rick:
Try looking here.
HAD BEEN REPORTED TO HIM. NOT “commited by him.”
Hence the link to My Lai. Bad stuff, unfortunately, DID happen in Vietnam. Pretending it didn’t is delusional.
Now if veteran groups or others feel that Kerry’s anti-war protests make him unfit for office, that’s legit, even if I think it’s silly. Too bad the Swifties chose to peddle fiction instead.
Jay
JKC, Kerry’s words:
There are all kinds of atrocities, and I would have to say that, yes, yes, I committed the same kind of atrocities as thousands of other soldiers have committed in that I took part in shootings in free fire zones. I conducted harassment and interdiction fire. I used 50 calibre machine guns, which we were granted and ordered to use, which were our only weapon against people. I took part in search and destroy missions, in the burning of villages. All of this is contrary to the laws of warfare, all of this is contrary to the Geneva Conventions and all of this is ordered as a matter of written established policy by the government of the United States from the top down. And I believe that the men who designed these, the men who designed the free fire zone, the men who ordered us, the men who signed off the air raid strike areas, I think these men, by the letter of the law, the same letter of the law that tried Lieutenant Calley, are war criminals.
The two questions Kerry should be asked, stands.
Dean
“Reported to him.”
BY WHOM? By his own sailors on the Swift boats? That would make sense, since they were part of his chain of command. In which case, did he file charges against them for their war crimes?
By others? WHAT WERE THEIR NAMES? This is not merely trivia. Take a look at “Stolen Valor,” and some of the investigations into “Winter Soldier,” the merry band of “veterans” which Kerry led who testified around the country to committing war crimes.
Take a gander at how many of them either never served in the military or did not serve in Vietnam. (No, that’s not a shot at Kerry, but at the group he supported.)
So, excuse me if I don’t believe that people who “reported to Kerry” on war crimes necessarily had anything to do with any such thing.
Ah, but is that Kerry’s fault? Well, if I’m going to testify, JKC, that you’re a pedophile, do I have a responsibility of knowing whether I have any facts to back that claim?
Slartibartfast
No one’s saying no atrocities were ever committed, JKC, so let’s not waste any more time on that strawman, ok?
JKC
Jay-
Thanks for the link. Food for thought.
Dean-
Your skepticism is warranted. Kerry’s association with the Winter Soldiers was dumb, dumb, dumb. That said, if the Swifties phoned to say the sky is blue, I’d want verification from three or four independant sources.
JKC
Slarti-
Agreed. I’d be just as happy if we didn’t mention Nam again. You and I seem to be the only posters left here interested in CURRENT events, though.
Dean
JKC:
Either you’re ignorant or you’re being disingenuous.
The business with “Winter Soldier” WAS NOT DONE BY THE SWIFTIES. “Winter Soldier” was done during Vietnam (the book version was something like “The New Soldier” or somesuch, w/ a anti-war vet Iwo-Jima-style flag-raising). Some of the investigations into those people were done contemporaneously, others came afterwards. “Stolen Valor,” frex, was published in 1998.
NONE OF THIS HAS TO DO WITH THE SWIFTIES.
To suggest, therefore, that your skepticism on this is b/c of the Swifties suggests that you’re commenting w/o any factual basis.
Dean
Well, JKC, I’d like to think I’m also interested in current events.
The pity of it is, the Kerry camp has produced darn little to talk about, in this regard.
Frex: Should we pull the troops out of Europe and Korea? We had a nice discussion on that, a few posts ago.
Question: Where does Mr. Kerry stand on this? What’s his PLAN, not his response to Dubya?
Terry
Re “JKC” comment on his desire that we not keep talking about Vietnam and move on to current happenings…apparently JKC hasn’t followed the Kerry campaign or the Democratic Convention remarks of Kerry very closely. Vietnam seems to be a talking priority for Kerry, not for Bush. His four months of service in Vietnam appears to be about the only qualification for President that Kerry himself believes he possesses!!!
JKC
Gross oversimplification, Terry. Does Kerry talk too much about Vietnam? Absolutely. But his web site DOES have policy proposals (as, probably, does Bush’s).
Dean- to answer your “frex” quickly, as I said in that thread, the answer in Europe is “definitely yes” and the answer in South Korea is “probably yes.” The worst mistake Kerry could make as President (if he’s elected) is to assume that every policy of the Bush Administration is stupid and to be discarded without thought.
Dean
JKC:
And there you have it. WHAT IS KERRY’S PLAN?? WHERE DOES HE STAND??
Lay it out, and there’ll be a discussion. BUT HE DOES NOT.
Slartibartfast
I’ll start concerning myself solely with current events maybe a couple of weeks after Kerry stops waving his service awards at us.
Terry
“JKC” – My characterization of Kerry’s comments on his service in Vietnam are far less of an “oversimplification” than virtually any of the drivel you post here!
Dman
It is my opinion that all of the other stuff pales in comparison to Kerry’s attendance at a VVAW meeting in which they discussed and voted on whether to assasinate certain US Senators. Kerry not only participated (information indicates he voted No) he has since attempted to coverup his participation. Think of any position that requires Congressional confirmation and ask yourself if anyone would be approved if they had this in their background. Why in the world then should this man be President!

Just for kicks, you guys should check out the letter posted on Steyn’s blog today.

Click on Mekong Mailbag and read the first letter which is sadly anonymous.
Is this cat legit? I have no idea but the letter IS interesting and funny.
Apologies for not knowing how to create a real link. I’m a computer rube.

why should it be hard for the democrats to attack the character of pows? Bush did it to MCcain in 2000
SLY
It’s amazing Kerry committed so many atrocities while being in Vietnam for only 6 months. Sounds like he must have gone over there just for his own thirst to torture and kill.
