Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

Not all heroes wear capes.

A fool as well as an oath-breaker.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

We are learning that “working class” means “white” for way too many people.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Everybody saw this coming.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

A tremendous foreign policy asset… to all of our adversaries.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

This is dead girl, live boy, a goat, two wetsuits and a dildo territory.  oh, and pink furry handcuffs.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

Question

I asked my friend if he had seen Arnold’s speech last night, and he said:

“No. I am not following these things because my vote is fixed.”

Why the hell am I paying attention to this stuff? There is no chance I will vote for Kerry. Why keep getting myself worked up by the left (their lame attempts today to dsicredit Arnold’s speech last night are a perfect example why they should be ignored).

Considering Arnold never said he saw them debating, the dailykos bit is nit picking something that isn’t there.

Oh, that kooky Matt. Typical liberal – knows more about Ahhhnold than he knows about himself, and ready to jump on a missing controversy. Nice try, my twinkies. It must be uncomfortable to recognize the difference between the conventions is that the Republicans allow free speech and controversy, and the speakers say what they mean and mean what they say. Oh, and that they’re watching the winning side have their say this week.

Matthew offers some moral equivalence when he writes, “Rather, the Soviets occupied part of the country (and the Americans [and maybe the other Allies] occupied the rest).”

    See! Americans were occupiers too!

You can tell it was a great speech, the left is going batshit trying to discredit it.

And, I have to say, it’s creepy watching them post, as evidence of ‘lies’, passages that so utterly contradict their assertions.

    ~ sigh ~

The Left has become self-parodying. Per the Kos post –

Arnold says he watched the Humphreys/Nixon Presidential Race, a friend did the translation.

Kos says Nixon and Humphreys never debated.

    Much hilarity ensues.

Arnold never said debate, he said ‘race’ and that his friend would translate what Humphreys was saying and what Nixon was saying … during the Presidential RACE.

    Seems reasonable to me.

    Reading … it’s fundamental.

Even if he did say debate, did Humprhey and Nixon never debate any issues in the whole damned race?

    The premise is absurd.

Heh. Standard operating procedure. If a Republican says something that a leftie misconstrues, it is a lie by the Republican. When a leftie says something that a Republican misconstrues, the Republican is an idiot.

Thus the leftie is never responsible for anything. Bullshit. If one is an idiot, so is the other.

See? I told you this morning that the juice boy had a thing for Arnie’s ass. Now he’s trying to cover it. You should know better than to “dsicredit” me.

    PS: “Humprhey”?

Oregonian, what is PS? Do you mean “P.S.”, the acronym for post script?

Happy that you were an asshole?

Arguing the finer semantic points of verbally delivered speeches is always so exciting, don’t you all think?

Oh, wait, no, it’s incredibly boring.

Ahnuld’s speech was pap. It’s absolutely nothing for either side to get worked up over. I’m with Cole. Most of our votes are fixed; there’s no way I’d vote for Bush or he for Kerry. No reason to get worked up at either side, is there?

I’m sorry….. living in Sacramento,CA. I heard that same exact speech, I am not kidding from Arnold, at least 15 times.

Does he use ‘terminate’ and ‘I’ll be back’ in every speech. Let’s not forget the new one, ‘girle men’. Expect that to be in at least the next 50.

His speech overall was alright and I did like a few of his lines, but a lil’ too bland for me as it’s almost like I hear the same damn speech everytime he gets on a mic. His needs to diversify his speeches a little more, and not cloud it with ‘terminate’ and ‘ill be back’ cuz damn, I’m about to not awknowledge the Terminator movies anymore until T4 and T5, yes he will be doing those. Cuz then we can get some great new lines like, “She’ll/he’ll be back” from the new Transvestinator.

I’m slightly confused by your points on Matt Y – Ahnold grew up in the British zone, with occasional visits to the Russian side to visit relatives – and therefore experienced about as much Russian tyranny as my uncle, who grew up in Britain and occasionally holidayed in Eastern Europe.

Seems Kos tried to play “let’s find the word ‘debate’ in this paragraph”, but he lost, so he made it up. Sad that.

“”The presidential campaign was in full swing. I remember watching the Nixon-Humphrey presidential race on TV. A friend of mine who spoke German and English translated for me. I heard Humphrey saying things that sounded like socialism, which I had just left.””

Give Jesse and Matt some credit for explaining or at least speculating over the genesis of what they were annoyed at. Neither Kos nor Atrios do anything more than toss meat to their devotees. Kos either lied or simply latched onto something in some other thread somewhere without doing the followup research. Atrios, as is his style now, posted a short hot button teaser to get his peanut gallery into gear.

Inevitably, a commenter at Kos or Atrios will torque the thread by presenting assurances to the others that Atrios’ or Kos’ latest bombshell is proof positive that the ‘rethugs’ are self-destructing and victory is at hand.

I do admire the intelligence and pesistence of Matt and Jesse even as they struggle with the seachange in the country’s view of the treasured ideals of the left. I think you’ll hear more of them as the years pass.

Kos and Atrios offer little more than kvetching and have evolved into providing nothing more than a forum for the absurd optimism of their followers. Toss out a talking point and let the regulars worry it in the same way post after post. I would not be surprised to see them both shut down shortly after the elections.

I’d say Arnold was correct and the other guys are ignorant stooges. I lived in Vienna as a student for about 9-months. Friends at the University told me about back-when Soviet tanks held part of Vienna. The city was divided like Berlin was, only they Soviets never built a permanent wall because theyh couldn’t surround it. There were 40,000 Soviet troops occupying Austria that were finally forced to leave *in 1955* following negotiations that would render Austria permanently neutral. They didn’t want to give up a chunk of Austria, and they only backed-up as far as Hungary.
