The “Big Me” almost had the “Big One:”
Former President Bill Clinton today checked himself into New York Presbyterian Hospital where he will undergo heart bypass surgery in the next few days after complaining of shortness of breath and chest pains, his office said.
Mr. Clinton, 58, went to Northern Westchester Hospital on Thursday after he experienced “mild chest pains and shortness of breath,” his office said in a statement released to the news media.
Tests at that hospital were “normal,” his office said, and Mr. Clinton spent Thursday night at his home in Chappaqua, N.Y. But after additional tests today, his doctors advised bypass surgery, the statement said, although it did not indicate when the surgery would take place.
Heart attacks are just soooo sudden. It was only a few days ago I was watching him in some recent video footage and I thought to myself that he looked tanned, rested, and the best he has looked in years. He probably hates the fact he can not run again.
At any rate, I hope things go well- no family needs to go through this.

The timing of this announcement is very suspicious…

My dad died at age 67 and my brother at 42 from heart attacks. I never cared for Clinton but I wish him a speedy recovery and a long life.

I would rather have him annoying the Republicans then haunting them. I don’t care for the man, but wish him well. I too, thought he looked pretty fit only a couple of days ago.

Clinton has reportedly been dieting in recent months and has been out on his book tour, very active.
That doesn’t mean anything, however. Stop and think about it. Vessels serving the heart are clear until occluded enough to cause a problem. Sometimes there’s a sudden, complete blockage of an artery, a large area of cardiac muscle is damaged, shock ensues, electrolytes go haywire

These days, you just can’t tell. I believe there are still so many unknown factors in heart disease in which we still can’t catch these things before they happen, even if you do have a good diet and are active. Illnesses sometimes hit people at their peak of fitness.

Wow, quadruple bypass.
He’s lucky he’s basically in good shape.

Contra Glenn Reynolds, Clinton’s been off of the Big Macs for awhile. It is cumulative damage, probably from his former dietary habits.
Speaking of having heart attacks, anyone notice Oliver “Guilty Conscience” Willis going ballistic over Reynolds’s comments on the Russian hostage situation? If I was tasked with defending Rand “Too Many” Beers’ criminally insane proposal to give nuclear fuel to the mad mullahs of Iran, I might flee when no one pursues me too.
