Just got back from the theatre, where I saw Ying xiong, Aka Hero.
I recommend it. Absolutely stunning sound and sights.
On minor complaint- somone actually went and complained that the movie was too loud. About 1/3 of the way through the movie, the theatre turned the sound down so low that all you could hear was the audience breathing and chewing popcorn. Iwent and told the attendant that the volume was absurd, so they turned it back up. Some fat lady then started bitching and got up and left in a huff.
Note to folks- movies are designed to play 85dB, mixed at that level for optimum viewing and hearing. If that is too loud for your delicate senses, wait until it comes out on DVD. Or buy your own theatre.
I am so sick of so many members of our society thinking the whole damned world revolves around them. The movie is too loud for one person, so she tries to ruin the movie experience for EVERYONE else. Jerk.

That is one of the reasons I stopped going to the movies. The cost and having to listen to people chomp as they shovel food into their mouths became too much. BTW, action movies are best watched with the sound set on “deafening.”

My dad didn’t see the LOTR series in the theatre because he has a problem with loud sounds. He waited for them on DVD and then watched them. While he did miss seeing the movie on the big screen, it was also considerate of him.

I ceased attending the films around the time cell phones became popular. The urge to ram cell phones down throats became too much. Now, I rent what I want to see.

Good movie.
I can’t say it was great….
it was somewhat complicated and hard to…..
I follow it pretty well but it wasn’t the easiest I’ve ever accomplished. I also feel sorry for Broken Sword; he died four times in the movie.
Sky also got some very limited arse-kicking screen time. Most of his fighting was Taoist all-in-the-head stuff.

I still can’t believe that’s the director’s first action movie (although Shanghai Triad is a character study in a 1930s gangster setting)– and I can’t further believe that this thing got delayed for 2 years in coming to the U.S.

But notice the theme: More important than life itself is the unification of the country.
Just a little love note from the Chicoms to Taiwan.

Agreed.. great movie. Can’t wait to see it on the big screen (we ordered it from overseas several months ago – great fun figuring out the menu which was written in chinese, heh.) I heard, though, that the U.S. version is different from the origional.. anyone else hear that?
