Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

When I was faster i was always behind.

I really should read my own blog.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

Too little, too late, ftfnyt. fuck all the way off.

To the privileged, equality seems like oppression.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

How stupid are these people?

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

We do not need to pander to people who do not like what we stand for.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

What He Said

This post is in: General Stupidity

There were about ten things I was going to write making fun of Andrew Sullivan, but Tom Maguire beat me to it and saved me a considerable length of time.

When did Andy become so unhinged?

I don’t know when Sullivan lost it, but it must have been before he made the post this blog refers to.

I *think* it had somethin’ ta do with Bush coming out in favor of the Defence of Marriage Amendment.

By Andrew’s hysterical reaction to that decision by the President (and I mean hysterical in its sense of the reaction an overwound schoolgirl might have when her fantasy-prince rock star announces he is going to get married — and not to the schoolgirl) I have to wonder . . . did Andy work up some weird fantasy about converting the Pres and Andy ending up as First Domestic Partner or something?

Not that anything’s *wrong* with Andy having those types of fantasies.

Quite a while ago, it just took your side a while to realize it :)

I think the word you are looking for is “shrill.”

He never “became” unhinged. He actually didn’t change at all.

Nor was he ever a Republican or Conservative. He just played one in his writings. Your problem (and many of us fell for it, too), was that he fooled you into thinking he was a non-LLL.

Nahh, Ray. I think before he had some honestly held conservative or libertarian views. The marriage thing did it for him. I agree with most conservatives: this is not something to be “interpreted” by the courts but be a part of law. I do not, however, believe we need a Constitutional amendment to define something that is in my opinion none of the government’s business in the first place.

Andrew is, to be blunt about it, a gay man who has started thinking with his genitals and not with his mind. He can’t accept the fact that Kerry will no more give him what he wants than the man in the moon.

I don’t understand why people pay so much attention to Gold-Plated-Bandwidth scam artist Sullivan.

About the time you stopped agreeing with him. Andy is a pure DC creature, shifting to one side or the other so he can get to go to the nice parties.

Let’s be honest, if Bush were to propose a doubling of federal spendin, nationalize health care, cut and run in Iraq, institute a draft, but come out in favor of gay marriage, Sully is the leader of the re-elect Bush campaign.

Yep, Ricky, UnJollie Ollie is right on this one.

Sullivan is throwing a simple snit based on a completely idiotic reading of Bush. The man ran as a social conservative and has governed as a social conservative. Never in a million billion years would he have come out in favor of gay marriage by judicial fiat.
This, and the fact that Sullivan wants to “Sally Field” his way back into the good graces of the lamestream media now that his nemesis Raines has been cashiered, explains his turnaround.

It just might be a gay thing. He is not he first homosexual to flipflop. Flipflops seem to be a thing with Democrats. The first was a nut case. I can’t remember his name! It shows how much attention I pay to the purveyors of alternate lifstyles.
