Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

Giving up is unforgivable.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

No one could have predicted…

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

When we show up, we win.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Via the Instapundit, accusations of hypocrisy on the art of Rush Limbaugh:

Not being a cigar aficionado, I have no idea what the hell Rush is talking about, except that he took the opportunity of a visit to London to break US sanctions against importing products of Communist Cuba.

Hunh? The US embargo dictates what individuals must do in England?

Now as a democrat/democratic socialist, I make an effort not to buy items produced in countries whose governments repress free trade unions. With China seemingly manufacturing most of the world’s goods these days, that’s getting harder and harder, but I try. But I’d like to believe that even if I was a cigar aficionado, I would resist the temptation to puff on a Cuban stogie as long as the Castro regime forbids the island’s cigar workers from freely organizing and striking.

So does this mean that on the Cuban-cigar issue, I’m (shudder) to the right of Rush Limbaugh?

No, it just means you have never smoked a good cigar.

Attributed to Alexander Haig most often, when asked why he supported Cuba, since he smoked cubans all the time… Haig said he preferred to think of it as “burning down their crops!”

The grand rationalizers, known as the Republicans and conservatives have been working with a guy who has financed communist North Korea with billions. Ignoring whatever it takes to gain power in America for the hypocrites, liars and frauds on the right is a very common thing.

Just a little on the right’s TRUE Savior found here.

I’m with John here. Screw the embargo – Cuban cigars rock!

Best smoke I ever had, I bought from the attendant in the restroom of the Eiffel Tower restaurant in Vegas. He said they were originally purchased in Vancouver.

I’m told the Canadian imports are the 2nd best afte the English ones. Anyone hear otherwise?

No, but support for the embargo dictates what individuals must do in England.

I actually am something of a cigar afficianado, and I have never smoked a Cuban. I fully intend to smoke a Cuban one day. I will light it up while pissing on Fidel Castro’s grave.

I’m not sure I’d agree with all the folks having orgasms over Cuban cigars. Dominican tobacco grown from Cuban seed is excellent and it’s been well documented that the best cigar makers left Cuba years ago.

    Ralph-

I agree- there are many non-Cuban cigars which are simply excellent.

I too think Cuban cigars are a tad overrated. They are excellent, but as Ralph says, there are some Dominican cigars that are fantastic. The Honduras as well.

“The US embargo dictates what individuals must do in England?”

Correct. There was a spate of blogging about this a couple of months ago.

    See here, for example.

Living in Taiwan, one year I was able to bust 3 sets of sanctions:

    A. Drink South African Beer
    B. Smoke Cuban Cigars.
    C. Buy made in Vietnam clothes

Hell, maybe I even used some Libyan gasoline then without knowing.

I gave cigars a fair chance, I thought, but still didn’t see what people thought of them. People kept telling me that I just hadn’t smoked a GOOD one yet.

Well, in Europe I tried a couple of Cubans: a Partagas, a Romeo y Julieta, and a Cohiba.

Still thought they tasted like ass. Fidel can have’em.

I always buy cuban cigars when I go to mexico, which is often since I live close. I love them. I never thought about them politically in the least. hmmm…

    Merry christmas btw!!!
