Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Thanks for reminding me that Van Jones needs to be slapped.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

In short, I come down firmly on all sides of the issue.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself.

Ah, the different things are different argument.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

… among the most cringeworthy communications in the history of the alphabet!

“woke” is the new caravan.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

It’s a doggy dog world.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Tsunami Relief Effort

I am watching Nightline tonight, and one of the guests is Marc Malloch Brown, the administrator for the United Nations Develoment Program. I only mention this because I am one of the first to bash the UN, in fact, if you check the archives here, I am one of the most opportunistic UN bashers in existence.

Having said that, I must admit that Mr. Brown was perhaps the most confidence inspiring UN official I have ever heard. I do not know his track record, but he answered Koppel’s question openly, honestly, with an obvious level of understanding and sophistication of someone who clearly understands his mandate and is very clearly in charge of things.

I trust this man with my money.

OK, give him your money but not mine. Corruption at the UN appears to be institutional not a hit or miss thing. One trustworthy man is not going to turn back the tide of knavery at the UN. Put your trust in American charities that you know.
