Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

A Question to Democrats

Read this:

Because the inauguration of President George W. Bush is the most costly in history, the price tag has led some people to boycott consumer spending in response.

Inauguration funds from private donations have added up to $40 million, not including the $17.3 million for the unprecedented security.

The boycott, called Not One Damn Dime Day, was first started as an anonymous e-mail and then made into an official Web site. Monica Boyce, of www.notonedamndime.com, said the idea is to make a statement against President Bush without having to go to Washington, D.C.

Since the Democrats seem to have a problem with people donating their own money to fund the inauguration (remember all the money you have is what theDemocrats decided you should be able to keep- they know how to spend it better), I have a quick question.

Dear Monica Boyle and fellow wingnut Democrats,

What with spring around the corner, I was planning to buy some new clothes and a new car. I know you don’t like it when people do what they want with their own money, and what, with the tsunami and all, I don’t want to offend your delicate sensibilities.

I respectfully request your permission and approval to spend my income as I see fit.

Thanks in advance,

John Cole

PS- In a rash move this afternoon, I sprung for extra cheese on my lunch sandwich. I know, I know, it is extravagant and I forgot to ask in advance. if this turns out to be a problem, please let me know and I will mail a quarter to the DNC. My apologies.

*** Clinton’s inaugural in 1993 cost 33 million. Eleven years later, Bush’s inaugural is expected to cost 40 million.

There weren’t 1,300 soldiers dead for nothing when Clinton was president and thousands of others in a pointless war getting shot at with inadequate armor.

Do you even think for yourself anymore Olie, or does Soros’ money come with talking points printed on the back of the check? “Dead for nothing”? “Pointless war”? “Inadequate armor”? Maybe his next check will have something a little more sophisticated, or perhaps you can think of some new slogans all on your own.

A question – did you support the NATO action against Serbia, Olie? I’m guessing that you did, and I am honestly surprised that you would think white Europeans deserved a little freedom while brown-skinned Iraqis don’t. A bit unusual, don’t you think, given your standard “race traitor” schtick?

John, when adjusting for inflation, Bush’s inaugural is cheaper than Clinton’s.

Wow, you hit all the taling points, dip.

The NATO action against Serbia had clearly defined goals and strategy. Also, there werent any US casualties and we weren’t occupying anybody’s country… nor were we supposedly on the hunt for the killers of 3,000 Americans. My standard “race traitor” shtick? Now you’re just making shit up. As usual.

I don’t give a crap how much some dude who wanted access donated to the inagural, but pawning off, what, $13 million in additional security costs on DC is pretty damn lame.

What a bunch of petty, bitter, worthless little brats.

If (shudder) the traitor-gigolo had won the election and it was the DONKS inaugural celebration, they would spare no expense in a crazed orgy of self congratulatory indulgence that would make Saddam Hussein blush. And every one of you miserable hypocritical little shits knows it, too.

People who know about business scoff at such ridiculous chest-thumping proclaimations. Unless you never purchase the product, you’re only displacing the time when you fork over the cash. Someone did a “don’t buy gas” day to protest the Ay-rabs….so, the people who didn’t buy gas on Tuesday sat in line to buy it Wednesday…..and the gasoline stations sold the same amount of gasoline for the week and the only people put out were the ones who waited in line to buy gasoline.

If half as much energy was put into WORK as there is bitching, perhaps Democrats wouldn’t need the government to tax the actual producers for their gimmes.

Paul, you nailed it. It’s small. It’s petty. And if that is all that they’re capable of, then they aren’t fit to run the country.

For the love of God, will you Democrats please get serious!

    Oliver,

So, if the NATO actions against Kosovo were well planned…why are we still there more than a decade on?

What is final status of Kosovo?

    NO ONE KNOWS.

    Oliver

    January 21, 2005 at 10:57 am

Yes, there are 1,300 dead Americans in Kosovo.

You guys are just dumb on purpose.

And Clinton’s ’96 inaugural cost even more than his ’92 one or this one. This for the administration which chose to ignore the genocide in Rwanda (Clinton infamously lied to the people of Rwanda later).

On the off chance anyone’s still paying attention (or even interested) $1 in 1993 is worth $1.25 today (actually, two years ago, but it’s still trending in the same direction). So $33 million then would be…$41 million plus now.

Complain away. I hate having the government waste that much taxpayer money on pomp, but they waste way more than that on pork. Hell, Senator Byrd wastes more than that on pork.

Oliver, you are such a putz sometimes. We didn’t need foot soldiers in Kosovo because we practically destroyed most of the country with an unprecedented aerial assault (one that came without UNSC approval btw. ILLEGAL WAR!! ILLEGAL WAR!!).

In addition, you’re comments about 1300 dead are just flat out asinine. Since when is the failure or success of a military operation based upon casualties? If that was the case, The American Revolution, The Civil War, WWI and WWII were total failures.

And your holier than thou Democrats killed 58,000 in Vietnam, so take your comments about the soldiers in Iraq and stuff them up your rear end.

Heck, if casualties are the designation of failure, no Democrat would ever be elected to a school board or higher office in any inner city in the nation.

Of course, we can’t have Democrats losing elections even though it’s hampered thousands of lives, now can we…..Oliver? Gotta keep the priorities straight and Democrats outrank poor inner city kids.
