David Winston, a Republican ‘Strategist,’ was just on Connected Coast to Coast, and started his opposition to allowing Terri to die with the following:
“I think we can all agree that Michael Schaivo is a questionable character…”
No. NO! AND NO, DAMNIT! I don’t f-ing agree he is a questionable character. I think he is a normal guy who was very in love with his wife. His wife hid her bulimia from him, it is a disease that thrives on secrecy, and then had a heart attack which caused grievous amounts of brain damage. I think he then, for years, held out hope that she would recover, but then decided this was not possible, and has tried to carry through with what he believed, through conversation and experience, were his wife’s intent.
Along the way, he fell in love with someone else- not out of infidelity, because Terri is for all intents dead and always will be, but because he just did. Someone being a loving husband, decent caretaker, and good father- that is how these jackasses define ‘questionable character.’
None of us can live up to these standards. Lying hacks. All of them.
Fortunately, Ron Reagan and Craig Crawford jumped in and shut this crap down right quick.
Crawfor just had him for lunch again, when Winston tried to say this wasn’t a right-to-die case. It most certainly is- it is not a euthanasia case, Mr. Winston.

“In early 1994 Theresa contracted a urinary tract infection and Michael, in consultation with Theresa’s treating physician, elected not to treat the infection and simultaneously imposed a “do not resuscitate” order should Theresa experience cardiac arrest. When the nursing facility initiated an intervention to challenge this decision, Michael cancelled the orders. Following the incident involving the infection, Theresa was transferred to another skilled nursing facility.
Michael’s decision not to treat was based upon discussions and consultation with Theresa’s doctor, and was predicated on his reasoned belief that there was no longer any hope for Theresa’s recovery. It had taken Michael more than three years to accommodate this reality and he was beginning to accept the idea of allowing Theresa to die naturally rather than remain in the non-cognitive, vegetative state. It took Michael a long time to consider the prospect of getting on with his life

Can we see what Ross Perot is up to in ’08? Becuase I for one have had it with the jackasses in BOTH parties.
The bullshit in Florida is the creepiest thing I have seen in a long, long time.

Im not sure that Michael is the good guy you make him out to be. I also don’t think he is the monster some are trying to paint him as. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle.
My sticking point is that once the decision was made to have a family with another woman, he should have handed custody back to her parents by simply divorcing her. It would be no contest due to his adultery.

John, I’m against the gov’t intrusion and the fact that Randall Terry jumped in, but please don’t give sainthood to someone who was shacked up with another woman less than two years after Mrs. Schiavo’s incident and had her spitting out kids while he has publicly admitted that he thought Mrs. Schiavo would still recover.
Not after he accepted that she was pretty much brain dead, but while he thought she could recover.
I think what some folks are doing to demonize the fellow is beyond the pale, but….nossir, that is an adulterer who conveniently forgot his wife’s marital wishes when it was convenient, which is why so many question his adherence to her other wishes much later on.
Love ya, but your synopsis is WRONG. He didn’t wait until there was no hope….he was humping the other gal less than two years later.
All the above is predicated on that the information that I have heard is correct & it’s from various news radio (not talk show hosts) shows and stuff I’ve read. someone can please correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure I’m right.

It is not a right-to-die case, it is a patient autonomy case. “Right to die” generally refers to assisted suicide. This is about whether a person’ wishes as to their own medical treatment will be respected, and is(was) a much more mundane topic.

A woman I know remarried less than 2 years after her first husband’s tragic and sudden death. She loves him as much as she did the day he died. However, she is, according to West, a bad person because she’s spit out three children with her new husband. Thanks, Asshat.

You are so right about this. More than anything, this drives me crazy. Objective observers who actually knew the principals involved, such as the guardian appointed by Jeb Bush, testify that Michael Schiavo is trying to fulfill his wife’s wishes. there have been so many lies circulated about him, but no one has been able to come up with any motive he would have for continuing this fight, subjecting himself to death threats and protests in front of his house, except that he sincerely believes he is doing what Terri would have wanted. I think he is an incredibly brave person, to withstand all that, in order to fulfill his obligation to her. It would be so much easier for him to walk away and let the parents have her body and divorce Terri and marry the other woman. He could have done that years ago.
