Really, this isn’t all about religion:

A man was arrested after trying to steal a weapon from a gun shop so he could “take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo,” authorities said.

Michael W. Mitchell, of Rockford, Ill., entered Randall’s Firearms Inc. in Seminole just before 6 p.m. Thursday with a box cutter and tried to steal a gun, said Marianne Pasha, a spokeswoman for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Mitchell, 50, told deputies he wanted to “take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo” after he visited the Pinellas Park hospice where she lives, Pasha said.

The feeding tube that has kept Schiavo alive for more than a decade was removed March 18 over objections from her parents. Schiavo’s husband has said his wife would not want to be kept alive artificially.

Doctors have said she would probably die within a week or two of the tube being pulled.

Randy McKenzie, the owner of Randall’s Firearms, said Mitchell pulled out the box cutter and broke the glass on a couple of display cases.

“He told me if I wasn’t on Terri’s side then I wasn’t on God’s side, either,” McKenzie told The Associated Press.

    The fact of the matter is, a lot of unhinged people like this have been whipped into a frenzy by the hucksters in Congress and the pimps like Randall Terry, and all I am doing is pointing out that this is not about Terri Schiavo, but religion.

    I am no more claiming this man represents all Christianity than I am suggesting all white people are racist, as you suggest.

    Calm down.

    I guess the guy had decided that there’s more life in Terri Schiavo than in the cops he was going to try to kill to get her out of there, huh? Or maybe that their lives were forfeit because they didn’t heed God’s word.

    The media is as much responsible as Congress. They’ve played along when they could easily have explained the reality behind her condition, the circumstances, and the law. They haven’t even properly reported that a huge majority of Americans side with Michael Schiavo–and what that means as to where the congressional leadership stands in relation to them.

    Somewhere the next Tim McVeigh is weeping “for Terri” and plotting revenge. And when it happens the media will act surprised.

    John, do you understand that people might object to refusing a dying woman water regardless of their religous beliefs?

    Of course, and I have stated so repeatedly. I think a guy, who while trying to steal a gun to rescue Terri stated that if you aren’t in favor of rescuing Terri you are working against God, however, does qualify as a religiously motivated lunatic.

    Quit trying to make me at as some anti-religious crusader. It is just more of the sophistry that let us get into this condition.
