The Mountaineers, one of the most exciting and over-achieving teams in NCAA Tournament history, have just come up short against Louisville in overtime.
I sure as hell am proud of them, and they were classy till the end, letting them run out the clock when it was clear the game was over, rather than fouling cheap and possibly hurting someone from Louisville.

John:
At least you got to go to the big dance. We had to stay home because our former head caoch couldn’t understand the simple concept “Don’t funnel cash to players”. I like Thad Matta, but I keep hearing rumors that he has a brother who is simply divine. I refer, of course, to Stigg.
You may now ding me for the horrid pun. Thank you.

Agreed. It was a helluva game; perhaps the best of the year. And you’re right, the Mountaineers were a class act through and through.
I swear, by the middle of the second half, it seemed like every other time down the court I was shouting, “Don’t they *ever* miss one of those?!?” at my TV when WV sank yet another 3-pointer.
Joe
Is this some kind of metaphor for M Schiavo’s struggle?
John Cole
It is a description of the game. And I thought I had schiavo on the brain.
IB Bill
It was a great run by the Mountaineers. Too bad.
Mark
Nah, it is a gratuitous swipe at John Chaney. LOL
Izzy
An underdog team which featured a star who learned to play hoops in a trailer park – what’s there not to like? Well-done, Mountaineers!
Greg Burton
John, the Albuquerque Journal today called the game one of the best, and classiest, displays of college basketball the writer had ever seen. (And for a Journal sportswriter to say that about any team but the Lobos is amazing.)
He really wished that both teams could make it – the only thing wrong with the game was that one team had to lose.
Joe
“And I thought I had schiavo on the brain.”
Who’s talking about Schiavo?
John Cole
Are yout trying to pull some sort of Vulcan mind meld on me, Joe?

Sorry, John, I was hoping your Mountaineers would some how get matched up against MY MSU Spartans… then we could have some senseless diatribe for a day or two, ;)
Unbelievably, the #5 seeded Spartans beat #1 seed Duke and later #2 seed Kentucky in double overtime. The latter being the best game I’ve seen in a while. Now all they have to do is beat NC, another #1 seed, to be in the finals next week. No rest for Coach Tom Izzo.

The Kentucky-MSU game was another I’d rank among the best I’ve seen in a good long while. Heartiest congratulations to the Spartans, even if they did destroy the possibility of a Louisville v. Kentucky Championship Game. :-)
