Proving that it is clearly impossible to retain your dignity after losing a national election (see also Bob Dole and Viagra and Al Gore and MoveOn), Sen. Kerry came out with this treat over the week-end:
Many voters in last year’s election were denied access to the polls through trickery and intimidation, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts told a voters’ group on Sunday.
“Last year, too many people were denied their right to vote; too many who tried to vote were intimidated,” Mr. Kerry said at an event sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts.
He cited examples of trickery. “Leaflets are handed out saying Democrats vote on Wednesday, Republicans vote on Tuesday,” Mr. Kerry said. “People are told in telephone calls that if you’ve ever had a parking ticket, you’re not allowed to vote.”
Mr. Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee, has never disputed the outcome of the election, saying voting irregularities did not involve enough votes to change the result.
Except, of course, for when he suggests that many peoiple were denied the right to vote.
Rocky Smith
If you are stupid enough to fall for any of these “tricks” then you are probably too stupid to be voting!
Jeff
As one of the two or three Republicans living in Philly, and as someone who has had to deal with Johnny Doc’s goons from the electricians union at polling places and during campaigns, I laugh hysterically when Democrats talk about voter intimidation. They’re the masters.
Sue
I don’t understand why people on both sides of the aisle aren’t more concerned with free and fair elections. Anybody who tampers with an election should be charged with treason.
Kimmitt
Dude, there’s nothing inconsistent with saying, “There are serious problems, but they didn’t affect the outcome this time. We should fix them now, though, to avoid the risk of a next time.” There just isn’t.
Nash
I agree with Kimmitt that each of those statements can be (probably are) factual. On the other hand, it is entirely appropriate to point out how much of twinkie wad Kerry is being about this. If it mattered so much, why didn’t he speak up a bit more at the time. What is so special about now (other than that 2008 is 5 months closer, which, I think, answers my question.)?
Jorge
Actually, this isn’t the first time Kerry has brought this up since the election. Either way, Senator Kerry had his chance and it didn’t work out for him. I know he sees himself as being a possible candidate in 2008, but I think most Democrats are ready for someone new.
As a Dem, I haven’t seen the kind of Democrat that I want. I’m not saying that there aren’t Democrats that can win the White House, I just haven’t seen the kind of candidate that the party needs. It isn’t a Dean and it isn’t a Kerry and it isn’t a Hillary. I guess its kind of like pornography, I’ll know the candidate when I see them.
CadillaqJaq
Jorge, as a Conservative, I feel the same way about the Republican party… who will be good enough to garner my little vote in 2008? I haven’t seen anyone I want (from either side).
Unfortunately, if Kerry gets your party’s nomination again I think the result will be the same. We need more than a pressed “suit” in the White House.
Aaron
Sen. Kerry, let’s see one of those fliers you mention.
p.s. any comment on the Dems who slashed the GOP vans’ tires?
Sen? Sen?
Kimmitt
p.s. any comment on the Dems who slashed the GOP vans’ tires?
“They acted without authorization and are being appropriately prosecuted.”
And the fliers are around; do your own damn Google image search.
Birkel
Oh well that settles it Kimmitt. I mean only a Republican would be so devious as to go to Kinko’s and create a document.
Oh, wait.
Nevermind. We know that Dan Rather got his documents there so apparently Kinko’s will allow anybody to create a document that could then be put into Google images. Neato!
So you have to prove that Republicans were behind the chicanery. So find the Google image that shows a Republican taping the flier to a pole. And be able to prove what is on the flier in question.

How is the stealing of Washington’s governorship going? I hear the Democrats stole that one fair and square. I wonder when the federal investigation will get started.
Ron Phelps
p.s. any comment on the Dems who slashed the GOP vans’ tires?
well
pps
any comment on who stole the dems computers in ohio with their mailing lists and emails

Well, if your side actually gave a rat’s ass about election reform, we wouldn’t have these problem, since you’ve had the executive and two Houses of Congress for a few years now. With so many recent egregious examples of incompetence and error, why have only Democrats been speaking on the subject?
wild bird
Another demacratic sore loser just like al gore i guess he is upset still and remember he was helped out by BILL CLINTON and i case you did,nt notice everybody clinton has helped out lost the election is slick willie jinxed?

I just have to mention here that Sen Kerry’s source for the “vote on Wednesday” allegation seems to be a story from the humor website “The Onion” This puts him in the same class as Chinese newspapers who re-printed an Onion article about the US Senate installing a retractible roof!

Kimmitt
No, the Onion is referencing flyers which have been put out in the past. That’s the source of the funny.
