Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Trump’s legal defense is going to be a dumpster fire inside a clown car on a derailing train.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

How can republicans represent us when they don’t trust women?

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

There is one struggling party in US right now, and it’s not the Democrats.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Let’s show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

I conferred with the team and they all agree – still not tired of winning!

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

If West Virginia and San Francisco had a love child.

It’s that time again- that brief, fleeting two day period of light in an otherwise dark 6 months.

Yes, of course, I am talking about the NFL draft. It is tomorrow, and I can barely contain my excitement. Who are my beloved Steelers going to take?

Put your predictions/desires below, and don’t forget to tell us who your team is…

As a NY Giant’s fan, my prediction is that their first draft pick (second round) won’t make the starting line-up and will probably be selling cars within 3 years.

    John,

I think the Steelers are looking TE in the first round. They need some O-line depth, but they may not want to pay 1st round money to a guy that will sit for a year or two.

They also need another CB, you can never have enough of those. They will probably pull another stud LB out of the 5th or 6th round like they always do.

Watch for the Steelers to take that QB/WR (Matt Jones, Arkansas) in the first round.

The NFL draft is just about the best time of year. Hopefully I’ll find the time to spend 5 or 6 straight hours of watching Mel Kiper’s hairm stuck to my sofa on Saturday. I’m hoping that the Browns can make a trade for Minnesota’s two first rounders where they’ll take stude OLB/DE Shawn Merriman and OT Jammal Brown.

Hmm.. I still can’t decide who the Steelers will take.

My Bears will pick up Cedric Benson. (I hope!!)

Well since the ‘skins have already somewhat blown it this year due to their absurd trade with the Broncos, my one prediction has already come to pass: that the ‘skins throw away picks on an ill thought out trade. Is there any other team in the league that throws away picks like the ‘skins do? But my best guess is that all the rumors about trading up for Edwards is BS, and ‘skins will take a corner–likely Carlos Rogers or Pac Man Jones–with the #9, and maybe a WR receiver. Matt Jones seems to mr. buzz this year, and there’s nothing Danny boy likes better than an overhyped offensive player, so why not him?

I think yer Steelers should grab Heath Miller if available.

I have no idea why enjoy all the NFL draft BS so much, but I do. If I see a link for a mock draft I read it. It’s almost pavlovian at this point.

My beloved Saints, who badly need either an LB or someone to shore up the O-line will likely pick a safety or D-lineman they don’t really need in the first round.

    Go bucs.

We need to take a running back with the 5th pick. Either Williams or Brown will do fine with me.

Which means Gruden will draft a Quarterback cause he you can never have too many inexperienced or washed-out QB’s.

I’m hoping that Minnesota does NOT make that trade with Cleveland, but rather snags the 2nd best receiver in the draft, and a defensive end with the 18th pick.

Wow, bg, another Saint’s fan who ain’t ashamed to admit it in public. And you are dead on the money. Who was the last good O-lineman we picked in the first round? And had to trade Pat Swilling to make it happen, no less. Anyway, I think we need another WR and shold look no further than Gibson of the Georgia Bulldogs. Drafting from GA has paid off for the Stillers.

NFL draft day ranks just below Days 1 and 2 of March Madness and just above the All-Star Game for me.

The Steelers love those QB/WRs (Hines Ward, Antwaan Randel El) could they make it three with Jones?

The Texans should trade down and take a pass rushing DE, but reports are saying they might switch #1 picks with Seattle (and send other picks) for Shawn Alexander, who has fallen out-of-favor with the ‘Hawks. I’m not wild about it, because RB isn’t Priority One with DDavis there, but if they don’t give up too much…

Minnesota Vikings trade #7 & #18 with Miami and select Braylon Edwards to take over where Randy Moss left off…..

grotesticle, you’re talking about Roaf, but I’ve got a soft spot for Turley even though he’s long gone and is probably going to retire.

And I’m still holding out for Henderson and Stallworth to mature and be worthy complimentaries to Horn. I’ll miss Pathon this year. I always thought of him as a poor man’s Keyshawn Johnson.

As a Seahawks fan, I’m very pleased with their offseason. They have totally shaken up the defense and I think Jamie Sharper was a great pickup.

As for draft day, the biggest wildcard for the Hawks will be if they deal Shaun Alexander. I would put that at 50/50 right now.

Just chiming in here – The Vikings took that reciever, Half Canadian. Now if they will just land a good lineman.

    A Minnesota fan/resident.

By the way, I like this blog. I follow it and Atrios. I hope that’s ok.

I don’t get it. There are real-live, actual baseball games being played. The Yankees are in last place in the AL East, and lo! the O’s are in first. Football season can wait…

The Yankees being in last place is just icing on the cake. Sorry New York fans but I never liked them.

I’m a die-hard Lions fan – and they’re going all the way this year.

They’ve alredy got tickets – 50 yard line, 2nd row.

Hey, I’m a FAN, not insane.
