yeah, I hear Randall Terry and James Dobson both drive one.

we’ve had ours for two years. The only problem we ever had was some wind noise when we got up around 70mph because the rubber seals near the front of the windows weren’t put together absolutely correctly. Got it fixed under warranty. That was a 2003, I assume you’re looking at 2005s?

“As someone who could not afford even a 3-4 year old Outback when I looked this winter, I’d say the Subarus hold their value just fine…”
this is Mr. Furious from the car thread further down, but I wanted to move it up here to respond to it. We bought our 2003 for 17k and now it’s worth 15k. We’re quite pleased with that.
Are you looking at the special editon? Those could sell for 30k if they were a Honda or Toyota.

What year?

Oh. I drove a 1998 and a 2003.
I actually liked the 1998 more, for whatever reason. Seat seemed more comfortable.
I will never buy a new car. I don’t drive enough to make it worthwhile (3-5 k per year), and if I lived in a city, I wouldn’t even own a car. I’d buy a nice bike.

Since I subscribe, and you might not, I’ll pass along some more info from Consumer Reports:

In 2002 I bought an Outback. I went to the dealer intending to buy a new Forester. But it was late in the year and the dealer didn’t have any 2002 Foresters, so I ended up buying an Outback. I have roughly 40,000 miles on this car and only remember two related problems both of which got fixed under warranty by the dealer:
1. the driver’s side front window didn’t close properly (I think this is the same problem bq is describing) because the rubber gaskets weren’t properly aligned.
2. This same window several months later fell out of its track and wouldn’t open.

You really should mention the year when asking for advice. If it’s a used car, I’d suggest trying to find something from a private party first.

Rattly windows are part of the quirks of owning a Subaru.
I found the steering in the newer Leggacies a bit overboosted for my tastes, but if you’re looking for a dependable, good-handling car that will get you anywhere a reasonable human being would want to go, then you can’t make a better pick.

“Anyone know of problems with this model?”
Yeah, it’s not a WRX STi. Ah c’mon, live a little! A manually adjustable differential is just what everyone needs!

I’ve owned 2 subaru’s, and I love them. They are reliable good cars. According to Consumer reports, they Are overall the most reliable brand of car.
Saying that, if you get a used one, make sure to ask if it uses oil. Subaru’s since they have a H engine Design tend to wear out one side of their rings pretty fast. If it does not eat oil, make sure that it’s used synthetic oil(i prefer mobil 1), and if it hasnt, move it over to one. Subaru’s are generally trouble free except for that. One of my engines was eating so much oil at 60k, that the Manf. Actaully gave me a new one, so super bonus. Just food for thought.
