I present to you Anakin Dynamite.
Also, I picked up the first season of the Wire yesterday, and I am already addicted.
The guy who plays the informant named Bubbs is amazing, and I love Bunk’s voice.

Some of the funniest scenes on “The Wire” are when Bunk and McNulty get drunk together.

The Wire. The best show on television ever. Period.

I started watching the Wire with season 3 and it is VERY addictive. I’m going to check out seasons 1 and 2 as soon as I can make the time.
I think in many ways the Wire is far superior to the Sopranos. And Deadwood also rocks, though took me longer to get hooked in.
Mr Furious
I’ve never seen ‘The Wire’ since I don’t have HBO, but since so many of the folks involved are from ‘Homicide’ (my vote for best TV show ever), I trust that it is excellent.

MrF, both are great, but obviously being on HBO, “The Wire” has a little more leeway as far as what they can do, show, etc.
that being said, Frank Pembleton (Andre Braugher) remains my favorite TV cop of all time.
Mr Furious
Holy crap! I just wandered over to the show’s website, and realized I know one of the guys on in the cast. Went to college with Seth Gilliam (Det. Carver), and he was on my intramural softball team. He’s a much better actor than outfielder…
I’m going to have to make a stop at Blockbuster on the way home.
Mr Furious
Oh, and Jeff, Frank Pembleton was just a tremendous character, and Braugher’s portrayal is quite probably the greatest television performance of all time. Seriously.
You had to love Meldrick Lewis though, too. And how great villian was Luthor Mahoney?
All around, a stellar ensemble of actors and until the last season or two, great characters all…

Deadwood is one of the best shows on TV. I’ll have to check out The Wire.

All the HBO drama series are magnificent, but The Wire and Deadwood have moments of brilliance that even great films hardly reach. I’m addicted to both.
A favorite scene of mine in Season One of The Wire: The first time Bunk and McNulty come to the low rise projects to interview “D” Barksdale about the murder of the “civilian” who testified against D. The dialogue between the cops and “clockers” is almost poetic.
And the opening scene of Episode One, when McNulty and the kid discuss the murder of “Snot Boogie.” Wow. Just great stuff.
What amazes me is McNulty and Stringer Bell are played by British actors. And you’re right, the guy playing “Bubbs” is amazing.

I liked the “fuck fuck fuck fuck” murder investigation scene.
Pretty amusing.
Grotesqueticle
John,
Yeah, that was easily my favorite scene of what has become my favorite show. They are casing a 8 month old unsolved murder scene and figure out what happened, just wandering around, muttering “fuck.”
Great freaking show.

the wire is absolutely, hands down the best program on tv. scriptwriting, the cast — really excellent.
one of the funniest scenes ever is bunk and lester questioning the multi-ethnic crew of a cargo ship about stowaway deaths. watching the detectives’ frustration build as every crew member denies knowledge of english is hysterical — ugga bugga, motherfucker…
