Hrmm:
With the elimination of the nuclear option, the filibuster may also be used against Bush’s Supreme Court appointments. What’s more, leaders of the evangelical religious right have denounced Republican senators as sellouts. One of the most influential, James Dobson, cursed one of the silent supporters of the compromise, Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., the former majority leader, as a Judas, and Lott in reply called Dobson “quite un-Christian.“
Of course, this is Blumenthal reporting, so I would wait until I see other verification. This discusses the tiff:
The campaigns are creating rifts between some of the groups and their Senate allies.
“James Dobson: Who does he think he is, questioning my conservative credentials?” Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., said in an interview. Dobson, head of Focus on the Family, criticized Lott for trying to compromise.
Watching Trent Lott and James Dobson fight would be like watching a Browns/Cowboys Super Bowl. I would be forced to root for injuries.
Brad R.
I’m suddenly getting images of a Cage Match to the Death:
LOTT: I am the wingnut lord.
DOBSON: Silence, fool! That title belongs to me!
LOTT: There can be only one…
Tim F
I would be forced to root for injuries.
Your analogy for teh win.
I’m starting to like this blog. It probably helps that I know bubkis about it.
BTW, there’s a Firefox plugin designed for dKos that provides auto-HTML buttons. If you can handle the indignity email me and I’ll try to look it up.

Once again, the Blue Dog Democrat and Wildeyed Liberal is going to shock you ….
I actually like Trent Lott. For one thing, he is NOT in any way shape or form a Wingnut, and as you are seeing right now, he is not going to be pushed around by the Dobsonites.
Lott is a skillfull Senate dealmaker and negotiator, usually shrewd and generally trying to act in the best interests of the country and the Senate. He’s a formidable opponent and I can hardly believe I am saying this, but ….
Bring him back! Begone, Frist, ye of the Face of Frankenstein and the forked tongue.
Lott has been punished enough for his stupid remark a couple years ago. Bring him back. I’ll vote Republican if you bring him back, I swear.

” I would be forced to root for injuries.”
Indeed, that would be the only rational course.
P.S. There is a plugin somewhere that lets you do ‘clickable’ buttons for HTML in comments (if, and only if, you use the proper version of MSIE) but it doesn’t help the infidels who dare to use Mozilla or, worse yet, oddballs like Opera or Safari.

I agree with ppqaz…sorry, fell over backwards at such a concept. Frist is a pansy waist, and Lott was better.
John – you have failed me for the last time! Root for injuries, indeed.

Joyner has a cool new comments plugin – txfx or something. Works beautifully in Firefox.

Stormy …. we agree on something?
Good heavens. Are you in Arizona? come on over for a beer.
Seriously. In fact, bring the beer with you ;-)
But seriously, seriously, Lott’s one of the old conservative guard down there in DC. A tried and proven warrior.
Sure, I’m a liberal, but I respect a worthy opponent who at least tries to do right by his country. That’s a hell of a lot more than I can say for Bill Frankenstein Frist.
Brandon
I wish we still had Trent Lott as the majority leader. Lott would have seen the theat posed by McCain’s compromise and killed it at conception.
Frist is weak. Frist is bland. Frist is a poor leader. Frist is getting his ass handed to him by the Dems.
ppgaz
No, I think you are dead wrong, Brandon.
First, Lott is temperamentally and ideologically a bad candidate for being pushed around by the insane Dobsonites.
Second, Lott is not inflamed with ambition. He doesn’t want to be president. I think he likes being in the Senate, where he does his best work and is well regarded. What motive would he have for cottoning to President Dobson?
Frist is not being beaten by Democrats. He is being beaten by Frist. He’s weak because he won’t stand up to the crazy people, and his weakness is tied directly to his ambition. He is afraid of the rabid right. I don’t think Lott is afraid of anybody.
Mind you, as a liberal Democrat, there is nothing I would love more than to see the GOP nominate Bill Frist to the presidency. I can’t imagine a worse candidate. He’s just a walking disaster. The only way we could lose to him would be to put up Arnold Schwarzenegger. oh wait, he’s ……..

ppqaz – I’m in Texas. Grapevine to be exact, where we grow our grapes for our wine. None of that Frenchified swill for us ;). But I will knock back some beer with you, anytime.
Ahhh, alcohol. The great unifier of the multi-partisan family. But all the alcohol in the world would not cloud my judgment on Frist, and his ineffectual ways in leading the Senate.

Ah, you are down there in heart of barbeque country. I don’t think there is anything in the world that beats Texas barbeque. On cross country road trips, I’ll go out of my way to swing through north Texas just to sink my choppers into the real thing.
I drop you a line and maybe we can hook up someday.

Whoops, my mail to you bounced, Stormy.
Sometimes I use my real email address on these posts. Like now.
Stormy70
Sent you an email, ppqaz.

John, I’m afraid you’ve caused the first cross-political friendship I’ve seen happen since 2000.
