Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

… among the most cringeworthy communications in the history of the alphabet!

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

“Squeaker” McCarthy

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Good lord, these people are nuts.

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

An unpunished coup is a training exercise.

Alright, enough about the Dean bit. If you really want to know why Democrats can’t win, you need look no farther than this:

One last thing before I go to bed…I’m taking DKos off my blogroll, because of what she said so very well.

What could she have said so well? Tell you what, to spare you the agony, I read it for you and am pleased to excerpt it for you:

    Two comments:

One, DailyKos is a pretty much anything-goes venue. It’s a meeting place and there aren’t many restrictions; people are pissed off there all the time. It’s quite healthy. Dems don’t spend as much energy as Repubs trying to pretend that they all agree with each other and can quote the same, uh, scripture, if you get my drift.

Two, I assure all of you, real Dems (the non-quiche eaters and the AntiLiebermans) don’t care to take any advice from Republicans on how to talk, act, run a blog, run a party, or do much of anything.

We pretty much loathe Republicans, and honestly, the more you loathe us, the better.

Considering the sorry state of your own party, I cannot for the life of me figure out why you think it is worthwhile to spend time talking about ours. Your party has been hijacked by lunatics. Good for you, you got their votes and you got your government. How’s it going? Are ya happy with the results?

We’re rebuilding over here. Construction zone. You might want to take some notes, because you guys are going to be doing this sooner than you think.

Of course, you’ll want to check this all out with GOP Chairman Dobson before replying to me ;-)

Comparing Bush to Hitler is dumb. Hitler had charisma. Bush is an empty suit. There might be some similarities in how the repubs are gaining support by playing to religion and peoples fears of non-pure folks but there’s no reason to go there.

    Three Comments:

1.) I am not telling you how to run your party because in the off chance I am right, you wouldn’t listen anyway.

2.) My previous comments about Dean weren’t telling you how to run your party, but were advice on how your party is going to be perceived and how Dean’s comments were going to be used against you. You chose to fall back on the ever popular victim role that your party created and my party perfected and state that “It doesn’t matter what Dean says, it is going to get distorted anyway.”

3.) Go to a mirror, turn around, and pull the telephone pole out of your ass. I thought it was pretty clear that this post wasn’tserious and was instead simply poking fun at all the persons involved for taking a stupid damned commercial so seriously. Since it obviously wasn’t clear enough, I really don’t think the reason Democrats are losing elections because of a splintering of the party because of reality tv show commercials.

I really, really hope you’re wrong about this. We need a counterweight to the GOP in Washington. (And yes, I know the Democrats were the only party in Washington for years, and the country didn’t come apart, etc., etc.)

But there are some things about today’s modern GOP that make me, to say the least, extremely uncomfortable if left unchecked.

The first is the extremist religious element. John’s already got that covered pretty well.

The second is the incredibly tight alliance between corporate power and the government, best exemplified by the K Street Project. I’m not an anti-business lefty, but I think the circle-jerk between corporate lobbyists and the party in power (for instance, as John has mentioned, the bankruptcy bill and the medicare drug benefit… and yes, I was very, very pissed that the Democrats didn’t unanimously reject the bankruptcy bill, but that’s a subject for another post) is very bad for democracy.

The bottom line is, we need an effective opposition party, whether you agree with every aspect of their platform or not. And Democrats have to come up with a platform to stand on, and we have to be able to discuss it without getting bogged down in identity politics.

No, but as with all parody, there was a point behind it.

    Well no shit.

But I thought you were saying it was part of a larger pattern, i.e., Democrats fight about really stupid shit, but can’t get their act together to oppose a really obnoxious piece of legislation like the bankruptcy bill.

Still, the point is valid. It isn’t always easy in the websphere to tell what’s serious and what isn’t. We can drift from serious to sarcasm to buffoonery and back in a single sentence.

And of course, there’s plenty of truth in humor, and humor in truth.

Don’t worry about me or my orifices. We’re fine. I’m enjoying the heck out of this whole Dean thing, and I hope it goes on for a long time. I fear, though, that the Wise Old Men (that is, the old farts who’ve run my party into the ground) in the Democratic party are going to find a way to get back to the status quo that they love so much. They’ve been storing up their daggers for Dean for a long time.

Which is exactly why I like him.

I don’t know exactly what Republicans thought would happen when they decided to declare war on half of their own country. That we’d be Rodney King, and blubber “let’s all just get along?”

    Sorry, wrong number.

Just this guy’s perspective from the left, but I think John nails it. The Dems can’t be the party that objects to gratuitous T&A and expect to win.

Being the party of and completely senstive to black paraplegic lesbian Wiccans isn’t going to get the blue collar guys all fired up to vote their economic interests.

As for Dean — I love him. I don’t know if he’s hurting or helping, but I don’t have any patience for the Democratic establishment which has proven nothing but an ability to lose and to do so in a bland, mediocre fashion.

  13. 13.

    June 10, 2005 at 8:34 pm

And, there you have it. Dems out here in the hustings love Dean.

Maybe people think that installing Dean in this job was just an ordinary event. It wasn’t. The party power structure put up a mighty and interminable fight to prevent it. Publicly, they’ll say, you know, tut tut, he’s got a big mouth, ahem.

But in truth, they fought him … and still fight him .. because they know what Dean knows … that the party rank and file are sick and tired of the old guard and want new, in-your-face leadership.

Republicans, of course, having nothing to crow about over in their party which is now being run by lunatics in Colorado, are more than happy to jump on the Deanbash bandwagon.

They will never get this, but the people who matter will, and do.

    Go Dean! Give ’em hell!

Dailykos has put up a petition to Congress, “Howard Dean Speaks For Me.”

    It’s in the diaries.

The operative word over at Dailykos has always been “spine.” It’s about standing up to the Frist/Dobson party, and to the entrenched good old boys in our party who still don’t get the idea that the future of this party isn’t with them any more. Their day is over, thank Dog.

I think that there has been too much erroding of the hard won awareness and sensitivity to womens issues lately. Too much Spike TV or, God help me, The Man Show, for you guys.

Well, no more! We need to start cracking the whip and teach you men a little respect! On your KNEES scum! The next time you’d better ask permission first. Now get back into your cage boy before I really get pissed off.

Ahemm, uh..sorry, where was I? Oh! did I write that? Gosh, I hope no one is offended. Well, I’m sure you guys can take a little joke, huh?

You can have your free speech in the form of soft porn, but I reserve the right to object to it. Just like your mom, your wife, your sister, your daughter, your aunts, your grandmother — all have the right to object to the same thing. Ask all of the women in your life (if there are any) about the appropriateness of stuff like that — and ask for their REAL opinion, not the one they give you because you want to hear it. Will you then categorize them as nutjobs? I hope not.

That you seem to believe that this is all about the pie ad only reveals that you stopped only long enough to get yourself aroused, and then ran off to show off your ignorance to anyone who wouldn’t notice. At least you have plenty of admirers to stroke you.

Your own misogyny doesn’t really surprise me. That Kos would seemingly express much the same attitude towards women who don’t follow two steps back, head bowed, is what the conflict on Kos was really about.

You see, you we would not expect to know any better, but with Kos, we did. Our mistake.

Perhaps as an encore, in your next post you can tell us all how 53% of the population represents a special interest.

  25. 25.

    John Cole

    June 13, 2005 at 12:22 pm

I don’t think this is about the pie ad, and have said so repeatedly. This is about you guys demonizing Kos for running the pie ad and his refusal to take the ad down and his ‘condescending’ response, for which he apologized for aspects of it.

And I am not a misogynist, not that I give a shit what you think.

Perhaps as an encore, in your next post you can tell us all how 53% of the population represents a special interest.

I don’t/ I think a special subset of that 53% is a special interest. While I agree with you on abortion on many other issues, there are plenty of women who do not, and you are fooling yourself if you think that you speak for all women.

Or being embarassingly condescending yourself, if your attitude is that women who disagree with you don’t know what is in their own best interests.

Feel free to keep commenting here, but as a favor for all of us, read the posts first.

    June 15, 2005 at 12:06 am

This isn’t about being objectified. This is about them attacking Kos because he didn;t rip down the ad he had up. Now they can say they are just pissed about his ‘dismissive’ attitutde all they want, but why would they even complain if it wasn;t the ad they found objectionable in the first place.

He told them there are more important things to worry about, and that they were being silly. They said they were pissed he told them they are being silly, and now want us all to pretend that they are upset about his dismissiveness and that is Kerry has just ‘spoken to female voters’ he would have won.

    They are being insane.

And yes, my throway line abuot ‘those who dare not shave their legs’ was intended to be snide. Guess what- these deep-thinking feminists are now most outraged about that line.

Priorities, ladies (that will probably be interpreted as condescending and dismissive).
