I think I am getting Gary Farber syndrome. I just heard this on the local radio news:
They took the youth to the edge of the lake, made him strip off his clothes, and then they beat him and tried to drown him repeatedly.
And my only thought was- “How do you drown someone repeatedly?”
Gary Farber
Repeatedly trying to drown him might instead be the way to go. But remember: there is no try; there is only do.

Was the youth’s name “Rasputin”?

Does drowning necessarily end in death? Not sure on the semantics there. If not, you could repeatedly drown with bouts of CPR in between.

Indeed, that appears to be what the CIA’s been doing with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. No permanent organ damage, though, so it’s not torture or anything … heck, you could probably waterboard your kids when they don’t clean their rooms!

“…tried to drown him repeatedly.”
Since they failed, they wer efree to keep trying. Had they succeeded, they’d just be dunking a dead body…

As usual, Buffy Summers has a topical quote here:
I hate it when they drown me.
