Hyperventilating About Rove

by John Cole|  July 5, 200511:31 am| 16 Comments

This post is in: Democratic Stupidity

FacebookTweetEmail

If you doubted me when I wrote the other day that the left is going to implode on their own hyperbole if Rove is found to have not done anything wrong, I would direct you to this:

Shit! Shit! Shit! Lawrence O’Donnell poopyman!! Everything you say bounces off me and sticks to you! Like glue! Hahahaha!!! I know you are but what am I?? Does your train of thought have a caboose?? Oh, that was a good one, Karl.

Damn! Damn! Think, Karl, think… You can get outta this.

Let’s see. I could bug someone’s office. No, they’d be expecting that. I could play the 9/11 card. Shit, no—I let George play it last week. Fuck! I know…I’ll leak a story to that homo in the press room…Guckert? Gannon?? Aw, crap on a Christmas tree, he’s gone. And Terry Moran’s grown a spine so I can’t use him. McClellan…Scottie old boy…he’ll be my missile defense shield. Spins shit out of thin air. Amazing talent. Good kid.

Calm…calm…calm. Inhale red, exhale blue..

Again, what made the pathological hatred of Clinton so much fiercer was that every time the right thought they had him nailed, he just got away with whatever the sin du jour was. The same here.

And I realize that this post has already set the necessary conditions for the “Aren’t you upset about Bush lying to start an illegal war” flame thread, so instead I would ask you to participate in the following unfinished flame war.

Oh come on, that’s just Bill in Portland’s usually tongue in cheek style. I’m sure there are some good examples out there, but by choosing a lousy one like this you hurt your argument.

It hurts to say because I like the blog tremendously, but another right-winger fails to detect a post written purely for humor’s sake. As a rule of thumb never take anything Bill in Portland Maine writes the least bit seriously.

To be fair, the Cheers & Jeers stuff on Kos is supposed to be funny (not saying it is) Your point would probably be better served by pointing to this piece: KARL ROVE: WORSE THAN OSAMA BIN LADEN by Ted Rall.

I think these guys know Rove is getting off light, assuming he was involved at all, so they’re using this period of uncertainty (before any charges are filed) to sway public opinion as much as they can.

As a lefty who spent as much time making fun of Students for Peace as the 4 members of the Young Republicans when I went to college, I can assure you that not all of us are joined at the hip with Ted Rall. Gack.

I loathe that fucker. Not as much as Bin Laden or Rove, but enough to wish he’d snap like a dry twig like Chucky Johnson and start spreading his slug trails on the other side of the fence.

“Again, what made the pathological hatred of Clinton so much fiercer was that every time the right thought they had him nailed, he just got away with whatever the sin du jour was. The same here.”

I think the right had more of a media network set up to stoke the fires.

I don’t think the left is currently set up to build up the same kind of thermonuclear dudgeon that we saw in the Clinton years.

For example, the Wall Street Journal was pushing even the most extreme conspiracy theories, and selling them in books.

I don’t think there will be a similar effort on the left, about Rove.

We certainly don’t have a Mellon-Scaife type funding a “Rove Project” to sniff around and dig up (or make up) dirt about him.

Nah, I don’t think the left has the media network required to really work up the kind of thermonuclear dudgeon we saw in the anti-Clinton folks.

We don’t have a crazy Richard Mellon-Scaife billionaire type, funding a project to scare up dirt about Rove, and getting people to make stuff up when possible.

We don’t have a constant anti-Rove drumbeat on the editorial pages of a paper like the Wall Street Journal, which really went the extra yard to promote even the more extreme conspiracy theories about Clinton.

Well to be fair, we do now. It sort of absolves papers like the NYT that they made a real, determined effort at bootlicking before giving in and admitting the Bushies are a disaster. The Wash Post gets no ablution at all; those guys remain as gullible the way a Lab puppy keeps going for the pump fake.

Tim F. writes: “Well to be fair, we do now. ”

Oh I don’t think so. If I’m not mistaken the WSJ editorial page spent years promoting a series of books enumerating the myriad evils of Bill Clinton.

I haven’t seen any mainstream source in the media make that kind of sustained, costly, extreme effort to generate outrage at Karl Rove. Or even Bush himself, really.

It’s true that there’s nothing compelling the NYT to slam the Bush administration save for the force of evidence. I can imagine that if they had a Scaife-type empire filling their sails they’d probably start to stink as badly as the WSJ did in the days before they decided that criticizing the president was treason.

Inside, Rove was talking to an aide about some political stratagem in some state that had gone awry and a political operative who had displeased him. I paid it no mind and reviewed a jotted list of questions I hoped to ask. But after a moment, it was like ignoring a tornado flinging parked cars. “We will fuck him. Do you hear me? We will fuck him. We will ruin him. Like no one has ever fucked him!”

    and

Sources close to the former president say Rove was fired from the 1992 Bush presidential campaign after he planted a negative story with columnist Robert Novak about dissatisfaction with campaign fundraising chief and Bush loyalist Robert Mosbacher Jr. It was smoked out, and he was summarily ousted.

    No reason for suspicion.

c’mon BTC, what did you expect from JohnC. Remember, he thinks that its really amusing (and not sophomoric) that some Republicans held a “Dean Scream” contest. Expecting him to get Bill in Portland’s knowing and subtle dig at the excesses of progressives (while at the same time supporting the ideas that lead to those excesses) is asking far too much.

    Oh, Good Gravy.

For you idiots with your sharp knives ready to bust out at me at every opportunity, I am well aware of the tone and tenor of Cheers and Jeers. I linked to the damned post, didn’t I? Why do you some of you always think I have not read or I am incapable of discerning the meaning of what I HAVE LINKED TO

If you think the Dean Scream isfunny and sophomoric but OYE is that OYE is a serious statement, then that is your damned problem, not mine. And Clinton fast food jokes on SNL are just as funny as the Ferrell episodes spoofing Bush.

BTW- you might search technorati for “Karl Rove Plame” and looked at the hysterical rants of the now 2300 posts on the subject, predominantly from lefties taking the exact tone I am describing.

I get a little tired of tedious remarks like yours, lukasiak.
