I have heard a lot of things about Senator Rick Santorum over the past few years he has been in the public eye. This is not one of them:
Incidentally, for those of you who might think Santorum is not conservative enough (um, would *anyone* be conservative enough for you?), here is the Senator
Pan is a non stick spray
John, I think you’re forgetting what has quietly become the penultimate social issue among movement conservatives: the right to slaughter puppies and feast on their entrails. Again and again, Sen. Santorum has routinely sided with PETA over mainstream America. He recently sponsered the Pet Animal Welfare Statute (PAWS), which is aimed to promote government regulation of so called ‘Puppy Mills’, wherin seven or more litters of dogs or cats are sold a year. He previously introduced a bill to force antifreeze producers to make their product ickier tasting, thus preventing animal consumption. He also promoted legislation against cock-fighting. He is given top marks by PETA and the Humane Society, and was provided with $5000 for his 2006 race by Humane USA.
“We support elected officials who have a proven record of leadership on animal welfare issues and Rick Santorum fits that characteristic precisely,” said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society and a Humane USA board member.
George Bush is a conservative. He famously reveled in shoving firecrackers up the asses of toads, and America is almost 50% behind him. Rick Santorum is not a conservative.

Look, you can’t be a social conservative and be fiscally restrained at the same time.
Medi-caid spending restraints – Yes.
Federal spending austerity in FY-06 – Yep.

It’s called “moving the goalposts.” If Rick Santorum isn’t “conservative” – this makes anyone President Bush nominates to the Supreme Court somewhere in the “middle.”

Who is it, exactly, who’s saying Santorum isn’t conservative enough? The guy in the link just said “for those of you saying…..”.
I don’t know that it has to do with his voting record as much as it has to with the fact that he supported Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey in ’04 Republican Senate Primary. That actually pissed off a lot of conservatives, but President Bush and VP Cheney supported Specter in the same primary, and while conservatives bitched for a while, they still obviously came out for Bush/Cheney.
