Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

“Squeaker” McCarthy

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

Republicans in disarray!

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

She Saved the World A Lot

Finished Season 7, and I have to say I really liked the season, and met the end with a profound sense of sadness. Plus, they killed one of my favorite characters. At any rate, if I had to rank order the seasons in order of which I liked the most, it would be:

5
2
3
7
1
4
6

I can’t explain how little I liked the whole Riley/Adam story line, even though Hush was masterful. Season 6 was pretty awful, but the last shows saved the whole season for me. At any rate, if you still have not had enough Buffy, I recommend the following:

Buffy World– all things Buffy, including transcripts and season 8 as written by fans.
Slayage– Academic geeks discuss the genre.

And then there is this:

Biological Warfare and the “Buffy Paradigm” (.pdf): a strategic paper from Anthony Cordesman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Also, http://www.whedonesque.com is a great blog for keeping up with all references to Whedon’s stuff on the Internets.

Now you’ll have to pick up Firefly and get ready for the movie in Sep.

The second season is still my favorite, primarily becuz the Big Bad and the Big Romance were located in the same character , Angelus/Angel. (Buffy formula? Big Bad + Monsters of the Week + Big Romance). The last is my least, if only becuz Joss’s ability to make me forget a bad season with a great finale was pretty much spent on season six. (There are many episodes I will revisit over time. None will contain the Slayer Sorority Girls practicing in the back yard, or listening to yet another interminable speech from Buffy re their mission.)

    Um, OK.

    Thanks for the tips.

(You might try searching my site for Buffy links you don’t have….

And I was very sad, also, at losing Anya, btw. (Although, hey, she can always likely be reincarnated or re-instantiated, or something, under the right circumstances, given the Buffyverse.) And the thing with Principal wossname was just typically tricksy Whedon.

And, of course, you’ve not seen the last of Spike by a longshot.

The fact is that there are very few major characters in the Buffyverse who aren’t favorites of mine; they’re pretty much all very interesting and amusing individuals, which is one of the things that makes me admire Whedon so much; I don’t think any other tv writer has created so many characters I’ve so consistently found interesting and individual, and I keep in mind that I like quite a few shows in the history of tv, from Hill St. Blues to LA Law to West Wing to B5 to… on and on and on.

And I’m doubtful anyone else has done such a great job of building up walk-on parts into major characters; see Jonathan as the embodiment of this.

That’s my take. 2 because the whole Buffy-Angel thing and the ending was terrific
3 because of faith and the Mayor
    5 Spike, Glory, The Body
7 Conversations with Dead People, and the last five episodes. I thought he brough it to an excellent close. Some people thought that Anya didn;t get enough of a dedication, but after seeing it again I think they did right by her
