Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

Everyone is in a bubble, but some bubbles model reality far better than others!

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

The choice is between normal and crazy.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

When we show up, we win.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Let’s finish the job.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

When the time comes to make an endorsement, the pain of NYT editors will be palpable as they reluctantly whisper “Biden.”

Some quick changes.

In order to enable remembering your info in comments, everyone will have to register. I am not totally sure how this will work, but we are going to try it anyway.

Screw that. I am not emailing passwords to everyone who wants to comment. Hopefully now that I have all the domain names configured right, it will just remember who you are. If not, we will look into it.

Second, we now have a link back to the homepage in IE. Just click on the banner and that takes you back.

Third, if you want the comments in a new window, check the box in the right column that says ‘open links in new window,’ and that should do it.

We are working on making a direct link to that, and adding preview.

Enabling comment pop-ups is just adding a line to the head tag in your template.

And the comment preview function is provided by a number of WP plugins.

Thanks, John. It’s very few sites that don’t require a registration to comment anymore.

I’m thrilled you changed your mind, even though I’ll probably rarely comment.

Love your site. Good to see some sane people still out there… keep up the great work. (and I would be called a liberal, although labels never fit, do they?)

Ok, how come some people get remembered and some do not?

I’m using Firefox, does that make a difference?

If it remembers your info, then you are a traitor, and a member of the Rebel Alliance. Rebel scum!

Hey, it remembered me! I guess the Empire doesn’t stand a chance now that I am a member of the Rebel Alliance. Now about those droids…

John, I missed the initial “How does it look” post, so I’ll share my thoughts here. It looks great, only I’ve got one small suggestion. Make the font for the archive and comment links smaller. It’s the same size as your post font and I think you’d be better served making it a tad smaller.

    Just a thought.

Warning! Stupid question ahead: Where are the smiley faces coming from?

I love the new site, by the way.

What smiley faces? Have you been hitting the scotch again?

In some of the other threads, people have put little yellow smiley faces after their comments. I thought it was a new feature.

Have you been hitting the scotch again?

    Hah! I wish!

They? Why, they is the plain and fancy they, that’s who they is. Caught you didn’t they? Tied a tin can to your tail. Led you in and waltzed you out again. Oh my what a bunch. Big tough ones hunh? Here you are with a hand full of holes, a thumb up your ass, and a big grin to pass the time of day with. They? Who the hell is they?

Okay, I admit it–I’m a techno-dork; can someone please explain how to do a block quote? I’ve tried everything (except for the right thing, obviously) and it’s just not happening. Please help, before I lose all self-respect!

Why does the font on the page bug me? Is this a new font or the same I wonder. Although the rest of the format is growing on me some. Didn’t John write somewhere that you can put comments in another window? How do you do that? And preview?

Also, you should make the title page more marked. When I’m on ‘next page’ I read comments, come back, and then forget I’m on an old page until I start reading things and think, hmmmm, this sounds familiar. Maybe page num, or different color for page one on banner.
