Via Adam C. at Red State, this bit of humor:
The Transportation Department has issued a warning to Congress that if it insists on providing over $1 billion in federal subsidies for Amtrak, the White House will veto the bill unless it is accompanied by stringent reforms in the railroad’s operation.
Members of Congress reacted to the threat with either chuckles or head-shaking. “This is the same administration that promised a veto ‘line in the sand’ on the highway bill if Congress exceeded a certain limit,” one House member told me. “The president is about to sign a bill with 5,800 separate projects for members that exceeds his budget limit. How serious does he think we will take him on Amtrak?”
